Jimmy Nelson gave up two runs and punched out 10 batters in seven innings and took a no-decision in Wednesday's loss to the Nationals.

He ran off six scoreless innings before allowing a solo home run to Daniel Murphy in the seventh. He went back out for the eighth and walked the leadoff batter before being relieved. That runner would come around to score against the bullpen but was charged to Nelson. This was the fifth time this year that Nelson has recorded double-figure strikeouts in a ballgame. He is 8-5 with a 3.38 ERA after 21 starts. He has 142 strikeouts against only 31 walks in 127 2/3 innings.

Phillies acquired INF Jose Gomez, RHP J.D. Hammer and RHP Alejandro Requena from the Rockies for RHP Pat Neshek.

Gomez, 20, had been playing with Low-A Asheville in the Rockies system this season. Over the course of 81 games, the infielder was hitting .324/.374/.437 with 20 doubles, 33 RBI and 18 steals. He'll continue to marinate in the lower levels of the Phillies' farm system now that he has been traded over.

Moments after Justin Smoak tied the game with a two-run shot off closer Santiago Casilla, Morales followed suit with a blast of his own to send the fans home happy. He went 1-for-3 with a walk in the ballgame and now owns a .254 batting average with 18 longballs and 54 RBI on the season.

Rockies acquired RHP Pat Neshek from the Phillies for INF Jose Gomez, RHP J.D. Hammer and RHP Alejandro Requena.

The Nationals, Dodgers and Red Sox had all previously been linked to Neshek, but Colorado ultimately comes away with the prize. The veteran reliever has put in a sparkling season to date, pitching to a 1.12 ERA, 0.81 WHIP and 45/5 K/BB ratio across 40 1/3 innings. This fine body of work earned him a berth at the All-Star Game.

Justin Smoak walloped a clutch two-run homer to tie the game in the bottom of the ninth inning against the Athletics on Wednesday.

His team trailed 2-0 entering the final frame. Following a lead-off walk by Josh Donaldson, Smoak cracked an offering from closer Santiago Casilla over the right field wall. Kendrys Morales followed with a walk-off home run. The bomb was Smoak's 28th of the campaign. He is having the best season of his career while slashing .297/.377/.592 with 67 RBI.

Bruce Rondon was ejected from Wednesday's game against the Royals.

Rondon was ejected after hitting Mike Moustakas with a pitch. The benches subsequently cleared. Don't be surprised if Rondon is hit with a suspension after the game.

Brewers optioned OF Brett Phillips to Triple-A Colorado Springs.

In 35 at-bats with the Brew Crew this season, Phillips picked up eight hits, including a double and two homers. The 23-year-old outfielder will serve as minor league depth moving forward, but could see additional work with the big league team before rosters expand in September.

Marco Estrada allowed two runs on three hits across five innings against the Athletics on Wednesday.

He made one bad pitch in the ballgame and it resulted in a two-run bomb by Marcus Semien. It looked like those runs would cost Estrada a loss but he was bailed out when his teammates erupted for three runs in the bottom of the ninth. Estrada struck out four and walked four in the outing. His record holds at 4-7 with a 5.43 ERA. He has endured a brutal stretch over the past six weeks, today's outing might mark a return toward his early-season form.
