Braves purchased the contract of INF Phil Gosselin from Triple-A Gwinnett.

There's been no corresponding move announced, but Dan Uggla is expected to be designated for assignment or traded. Gosselin earned the promotion by batting .338 with a .375 on-base percentage in 86 games for Gwinnett. He'll be used in a utility role for the Braves.

Braves activated RHP Pedro Beato from the 15-day disabled list; sent him outright to Triple-A Gwinnett.

Beato is over his sore elbow, but he's now off the 40-man roster. The hard-thrower has been unscored upon in three appearances with the big club this season and could get another shot eventually.

Cardinals designated OF Mike O'Neill for assignment.

They needed to clear space on the 40-man roster for the addition of George Kottaras. O'Neill has been an on-base machine (.418 OBP) in the minors but is hitting just .258/.343/.341 in a return back to Double-A this year. Still, some team could see the gaudy walk total and take a shot on the 26-year-old as an extra outfielder.

Eddie Butler (shoulder) allowed three runs on two hits and two walks over four innings in his first rehab start with High-A Modesto Saturday.

Butler got his pitch count up to 58 and reportedly hit 96 mph on the radar gun, so it was a positive showing all in all. The Rockies are hoping that the young right-hander will be ready to rejoin the rotation not long after the All-Star break.
Jul 13 - 8:49 AM

Kevin Siegrist (forearm, shoulder) walked two but threw two-thirds of a scoreless inning in his first rehab appearance with Double-A Springfield.

It's not clear how many appearances Siegrist will need before being activated, but he was seem to have a good shot to return immediately after the All-Star break. With Sam Freeman almost surely set to stick around, the Cardinals figure to go with three lefties in the bullpen.
Jul 13 - 8:42 AM

Rangers signed RHP Erik Hamren to a minor league contract.

Hamren had been in independent ball, posting a 2.41 ERA with 42 strikeouts over 37 1/3 relief innings. The 27-year-old last pitched at Double-A when in pro ball and hasn't been in the majors since 2011.
Jul 13 - 8:37 AM

Jake Smolinski went 0-for-3 at the plate in his return to the lineup Saturday.

Smolinski was forced to leave Friday's game after being hit on the left elbow by a pitch, but he was back out there the next day. The 25-year-old has picked up eight hits in his first 17 at-bats with the Rangers.
Jul 13 - 3:56 AM

Corey Dickerson went 2-for-3 and drew a walk in his return to action Saturday.

Dickerson hadn't played since tweaking his wrist while making an attempt at a diving catch during Tuesday's game. It shouldn't be an issue for him going forward, especially with the All-Star break coming up.
