Yadier Molina told Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com on Wednesday that "the clock is still running" when asked if there has been progress in extension talks with the Cardinals.

Molina doesn't want to talk about an extension after Opening Day, but it sounds like significant progress has been made. FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reported Tuesday that if completed, Molina is expected to receive a three-year extension in the range of $45-55 million. He could probably get more money on the open market (he has a $15 million mutual option for 2018), but Molina doesn't want to uproot his family at this stage of his career. Look for something to get done here.

Ryan Zimmerman hit his second spring home run Wednesday off the Cardinals' Michael Wacha.

After an 0-for-17 start, Zimmerman has gone 16-for-35 with six extra-base hits and a couple of steals since March 15. Adam Lind, meanwhile, has done nothing this spring, so Zimmerman shouldn't have to worry about losing any playing time at the beginning of the year. He'll open the season batting sixth or seventh, depending on how Dusty Baker utilizes Adam Eaton.

Jayson Stark of ESPN.com reports that the Tigers have placed outfielder Steven Moya on outright waivers.

Moya looked like an obvious option to fill in for J.D. Martinez (foot), but he batted just .192 (10-for-52) with 11 strikeouts this spring. There's a chance he could draw some interest on waivers, but the Tigers are hoping to keep him around at Triple-A. Mikie Mahtook and Tyler Collins now figure to split time in right field until Martinez is ready while JaCoby Jones should be in line to play center.

Twins signed RHP Paul Clemens to a minor league contract.

Clemens was released by the Padres last week and quickly found a new opportunity. The 29-year-old owns a 4.89 ERA across 66 appearances -- 19 starts -- in the majors and figures to get a shot with the Twins at some point.

Rangers optioned RHP Nick Martinez to Triple-A Round Rock.

Martinez was roughed up with an 8.66 ERA over five starts and one relief appearance this spring. He'll serve as rotation depth in the minors.

Gregory Polanco (shoulder) saw 10 at-bats on the minor league side at Pirate City on Wednesday.

He also threw from a distance of 90 feet. It's good news for Polanco, who has been dealing with discomfort in his left shoulder over the past few days. He's slated to play in a game on Friday, so he's trending in the right direction leading into Opening Day.

Cubs reassigned C Carlos Corporan to minor league camp.

It's an expected cut. Willson Contreras and Miguel Montero are expected to handle the bulk of the catching duties for Chicago this season. Kyle Schwarber is considered an emergency option.

Adrian Beltre (calf) will be re-evaluated over the weekend.

Beltre came down with some tightness in his right calf muscle on Monday, though an MRI showed it wasn't severe. While he initially expressed confidence about his readiness for Opening Day, he's running out of time to prove it. The disabled list could eventually be an option if he doesn't show enough progress this weekend.
