The Rockies are expected to designate Brandon Barnes for assignment on Monday.

The club plans to call up top prospect David Dahl on Sunday, and it looks as though Barnes will be the odd-man out. The 30-year-old outfielder has hit just .220/.250/.320 with no homers, eight RBI and a 30/3 K/BB ratio in 109 plate appearances with the big league club this season.

The Rockies announced Sunday that top prospect David Dahl will be recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque on Monday.

The club gets the benefit of having a designated hitter for their series in Baltimore to begin the week, so they'll take a look at the sweet-swinging outfielder. With Carlos Gonzalez and Charlie Blackmon on the trade block, Dahl could be up with the big league club to stay. The 22-year-old is hitting .314/.394/.569 with 18 homers, 61 RBI and 17 stolen bases in 92 games between Double-A Hartford and Triple-A Albuquerque this season. He's immediately an interesting commodity in all mixed leagues.

Blue Jays signed RHP Scott Copeland to a minor league contract.

Copeland returns to the Blue Jays, who sold his rights to the LG Twins of the Korean Baseball Organization back in April. The 28-year-old hurler registered a 5.54 ERA, 1.78 WHIP and 34/42 K/BB ratio over 63 1/3 innings in Korea. He'll provide organizational depth for the Jays.

Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports that the Rangers have expressed interest in acquiring veteran right-hander Edinson Volquez from the Royals.

Grant notes that the entire Rangers brass in charge of player personnel was on hand for Volquez's start on Sunday and the club has admitted that they're seeking a major upgrade to their rotation. The Royals haven't yet decided if they'll be buyers or sellers at next week's trade deadline. The right-hander's next start is conveniently against the Rangers in Arlington on Friday, so all he may need to do is change dugouts if a deal gets consummated.

Craig Kimbrel (knee) played catch without any issues on Sunday and is expected to throw a bullpen session on Monday.

If that goes well, he'll repeat the process on Wednesday. Assuming all goes well with both bullpens, Kimbrel will progress to either a minor league rehab assignment or a simulated game. He's on track to return to the Red Sox bullpen in early August.

Tigers optioned RHP Buck Farmer to Triple-A Toledo.

Farmer was with the club just for one day as the 26th man for Sunday's quasi-doubleheader against the White Sox. He'll continue to provide depth for the Tigers at Triple-A.

Kristie Ackert of the New York Daily News reports that the Mets offered Travis d'Arnaud straight up in a trade for Jonathan Lucroy and were refuted by the Brewers.

The Mets are reportedly still interested in acquiring Lucroy, but it's going to take more than just d'Arnaud to get a deal done. With several other clubs in the mix to acquire Lucroy, the Brewers can afford to sit back and demand a King's ransom for the hard-hitting backstop.

Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports reports that a deal that would send Aroldis Chapman to the Cubs isn't completed yet, but looks even likelier.

The Yankees would receive multiple pieces in return including Gleyber Torres. It sounds as though this deal is going to get done soon, though it may not end up getting finished on Sunday night.
