Edinson Volquez racked up nine strikeouts 0ver 5 2/3 innings in a no-decision against the Cubs on Friday.

The right-hander allowed three runs on six hits and a walk on the afternoon, and left in line for a victory, though his bullpen was unable to hold onto his lead. He has been a tremendous addition to the Royals rotation, posting a 2.95 ERA and 48/21 K/BB ratio over his 61 innings. He'll look to get back in the win column on Thursday when he does battle against the Indians.

Addison Russell blasted his fourth home run of the season in a losing effort against the Royals on Friday.

His solo shot off Kelvin Herrera tied the game at 4-4 in the seventh inning, but wound up being the extent of the Cubs offense. He also doubled in the contest, finishing the day 2-for-4. Russell is now hitting .260/.305/.455 with four homers and 14 RBI in his limited time in the big leagues.
May 29 - 9:33 PM

Jake Arrieta surrendered four runs on eight hits over seven innings in a no-decision against the Royals on Friday.

Arrieta racked up five strikeouts on the afternoon without issuing a walk. Most of the damage against him came via the long ball, with Alcides Escobar, Alex Gordon and Salvador Perez each blasting solo home runs. He'll carry a 3.18 ERA and 67/14 K/BB ratio into Wednesday's start against the Marlins in Miami.

Avisail Garcia (knee) expects to return to the White Sox lineup on Saturday.

He hasn't played since aggravating his knee injury during Monday's game. It's the type of injury that isn't serious enough to land him on the disabled list, but could continue to crop up here and there throughout the grind of the MLB season.
May 29 - 9:21 PM

Ross Detwiler (shoulder) will be used out of the Rangers bullpen once he returns from the disabled list.

The Rangers have had issues recently with the backend of their rotation, but it doesn't appear that Detwiler will be the savior for the group. He is expected to rejoin the team soon.
May 29 - 8:54 PM

Erik Cordier has elected free agency.

Cordier cleared waivers after being designated for assignment by the Giants, but he has opted to explore the open market rather than accepting an outright assignment to Triple-A Sacramento. The right-hander holds a 1.50, 1.00 WHIP and 20/8 K/BB ratio over 12 innings in the minor leagues this season.
May 29 - 8:52 PM

Jake Peavy experienced renewed back tightness after his minor league rehab start with Triple-A Sacramento on Wednesday and will be evaluated by a doctor.

Giants skipper Bruce Bochy said that the team will slow play his recovery, which is an obvious setback in his return to the Giants rotation. There is no clear timetable for him to resume throwing at the moment.
May 29 - 8:22 PM

Carlos Santana will return from the paternity leave list and join the Indians on Sunday in Seattle.

Santana was away from the team to be with his wife for the birth of their baby girl, and he has enjoyed a couple of days with his newborn. Expect him back in the lineup for Sunday's series finale against the Mariners.
