Grant Dayton will receive a second opinion after initial scans on his left elbow came back unclear.

Dayton was coming back from a neck injury when his pitching elbow started barking. Obviously, more will be known about his status following a second exam.

Chris Davis (illness) is back in the Orioles' lineup Sunday.

Davis missed the last two games with an illness, but he's feeling well enough to give it a go Sunday. He's at first base and batting seventh against Parker Bridwell and the Angels.

Drew Pomeranz (back) is expected to make his next scheduled start on Wednesday in Cleveland.

Pomeranz was lifted from his start last Friday due to back spasms, but he's responded well to treatment the last few days. He'll throw a bullpen session Monday before officially being cleared for Wednesday if all goes well.

J.J. Hardy (wrist) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Norfolk on Monday.

He hasn't played in two months due to a fractured wrist, so Hardy figures to need a good number of rehab games. He's also not guaranteed a starting job once he returns with Tim Beckham playing so well.
Aug 20 - 11:23 AM

Orioles recalled RHP Alec Asher from Triple-A Norfolk.

Asher has posted a 5.53 ERA over 21 appearances -- six starts -- for the Orioles this season. He'll give the bullpen some length.
Aug 20 - 11:21 AM

Orioles optioned RHP Miguel Castro to Double-A Bowie.

Castro pitched 4 2/3 scoreless relief innings the last two days, but the Orioles needed a fresh arm. That arm belongs to Alec Asher.

Cameron Maybin (knee) remained out of the Angels' lineup Sunday.

He hasn't played since Wednesday due to nagging right knee soreness. It's the same knee that sent Maybin to the disabled list and he might have to head back there if he doesn't improve in a hurry. Ben Revere will get another start in left field and in the leadoff spot.
Aug 20 - 11:18 AM

Clayton Kershaw (back) is on track to begin a rehab assignment next weekend with either Double-A Tulsa or Triple-A Oklahoma City.

That's assuming he gets through a simulated game -- which will take place Monday -- with no issues. Kershaw tossed a simulated game last Wednesday with no problems. It's unclear at this point how many rehab starts the left-hander will require. Kershaw has been out for the last four weeks with a lower back strain.
