Bills waived WR Dezmin Lewis.
Cardinals waived RB Robert Hughes.
Hughes is an interesting cut by the Cardinals because he was constantly talked up as being "locked in" as the short-yardage back. Far from a special talent, Hughes averaged just 1.9 YPC on 13 totes this preseason after chugging along to 11 yards on seven carries last season. Andre Ellington, rookie David Johnson, and Chris Johnson will handle backfield duties for the Cardinals.
Bills released OLB Quentin Groves.
Groves, 31, was signed last month and was already facing an uphill battle to make the team. The former second-round pick is a special teamer at this stage.
49ers released LB Philip Wheeler.
Oh, how far Wheeler has fallen since signing a five-year, $26 million deal with the Dolphins back in 2013. He's been cut by Miami and San Francisco this year.
Falcons acquired LG Andy Levitre from the Titans.
Good job by Titans GM Ruston Webster to find someone to take on Levitre's contract AND get something in return. Levitre was signed to a six-year, $46.8 million contract in 2013 but wasn't a fit in coach Ken Whisenhunt's offense. He was replaced at left guard by fellow veteran Byron Bell. Levitre is still just 29 and had a ton of success in Buffalo before Tennessee. Going back to a zone-blocking scheme like Falcons OC Kyle Shanahan's should help a lot. Levitre should step right into the lineup ahead of Mike Person. The rest of the Falcons' line: LT Jake Matthews, C Joe Hawley, RG Chris Chester, RT Ryan Schraeder.
Ravens released WR Tom Nelson and waived WR Daniel Brown, OT Blaine Clausell, CB Quinton Pointer, and ILB Andrew Bose.
Nelson was trying to make the switch to receiver from safety after being out of the league for four years. He caught five passes for 57 yards this preseason.
Bills waived DE/OLB IK Enemkpali and OT D.J. Johnson.
After Enemkpali threw the punch heard 'round the world, busting Geno Smith's jaw, he was cut by the Jets and quickly scooped up by former coach Rex Ryan. Enemkpali showed well in preseason action, but the Bills are too deep.
Giants acquired P Brad Wing from the Steelers in exchange for a late-round pick.
The Steelers were going to have to cut either Wing or P Jordan Berry, so they do well to get something for one of them. Wing will handle punting duties for the G-Men after they released P Steve Weatherford earlier Friday morning.
