CC Sabathia (knee) has postponed Monday's appointment with Dr. James Andrews and will see Dr. Neal ElAttrache and Dr. Keith Meister first.
The anticipation is that Sabathia probably needs microfracture surgery on his right knee, but he understandably wants as many opinions as possible before making a decision. If he does need an operation, obviously his season would be over.
FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that Mark Trumbo (foot) is in San Francisco with the Diamondbacks and could be activated from the disabled list on Friday.
The plan has been to activate him immediately after the All-Star break, but Trumbo appears to have forced the club's hand by hitting five homers over seven rehab games. We should find out shortly whether the Giants indeed plan on activating him early. Trumbo has been sidelined since late April with a stress fracture in his left foot.
Oscar Taveras is not in the Cardinals' lineup Friday.
Taveras went hitless Thursday following two straight multi-hit games, and that was apparently enough to earn him a spot on Mike Matheny's bench. Allen Craig is playing right field against Yovani Gallardo and the Brewers.
Jason Castro is back in the Astros' lineup Friday.
It's his first start since Sunday, as Castro has been battling pain in his left armpit. The Astros catching is sporting a .228/.303/.366 batting line with seven homers and 34 RBI over 73 games this season.
Rangers signed RHP Jerome Williams to a minor league deal.
He'll head to Triple-A Round Rock as depth but has an opt-out clause that he can exercise if he's not promoted in the next two weeks. Williams was released by the Astros earlier this month after posting a 6.04 ERA.
Orioles recalled RHP Kevin Gausman from Triple-A Norfolk.
Gausman will start either on Saturday (less likely) or Sunday (more likely) against the Yankees in place of the injured Ubaldo Jimenez (ankle). Jimenez is eligible to return from the DL not long after the All-Star break, but Gausman should get at least one additional outing.
Orioles placed RHP Ubaldo Jimenez on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to July 6, with a sprained right ankle.
Jimenez rolled his ankle on Wednesday while getting out of his car, resulting in lots of swelling. It's not clear at this point how long he'll be sidelined. Kevin Gausman has been recalled to take his spot in the rotation.
Adam Lind (foot) is expected to return in 2-3 weeks after undergoing a second opinion.
Lind was initially expected to be sidelined 6-8 weeks, so obviously this is great news. He'll wear a walking boot on his fractured right foot for the next 5-7 days before then beginning his rehab. Dan Johnson has replaced Lind on the roster.
