Rockies recalled LHP Chris Rusin from Triple-A Albuquerque.

He'll serve as the 26th man during Wednesday's doubleheader. Rusin has posted a 6.23 ERA over four starts at Albuquerque this season.

Derek Norris is absent from the Padres' lineup Wednesday.

It's just Norris receiving a breather. Austin Hedges is behind the dish Wednesday.
May 6 - 12:47 PM

Will Middlebrooks is not in the Padres' lineup Wednesday.

It looks like just a routine day of rest. Cory Spangenberg is at third base Wednesday in Middlebrooks' place.

Josh Hamilton (shoulder) is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Round Rock next week.

It had been reported previously that he'd begin the assignment later this week, but the Rangers are pushing it back a few days. Hamilton has played in extended spring training games the last couple days and is expected back before the end of May.
May 6 - 12:02 PM

Mitch Moreland (elbow) played catch from 75 feet and took 25 swings off a tee on Tuesday.

He's hoping to hit in the batting cage on Wednesday or Thursday. Making his way back from minor left elbow surgery, Moreland is expected back before the end of the month.
May 6 - 12:00 PM

Randal Grichuk (back) took batting practice on Tuesday.

It's the first time he's done so since landing on the disabled list last month with a lower back strain. Grichuk will begin playing in extended spring training games on Friday. It's possible he could skip a rehab assignment, but either way he appears to be tracking towards a return sometime next week.
May 6 - 11:55 AM

Giants manager Bruce Bochy said Tuesday that Hunter Pence (forearm) could begin a rehab assignment within the next week.

Bochy was impressed with how Pence looked during hitting drills Tuesday. "His BP today got better as it went," Bochy said. "He started on a tee, then worked off a machine. They got it cranked up pretty good." Pence will continue taking batting practice through Friday and could be cleared for a rehab assignment after that.
May 6 - 11:47 AM

Jayson Werth is out of the lineup for the second straight day Wednesday due to what Nationals manager Matt Williams referred to as a "cranky" right shoulder.

Williams and the Nats are viewing it as part of the normal recovery process after Werth's offseason shoulder surgery. The good news is that the outfielder will be available off the bench Wednesday and return to the lineup Friday. The bad news, of course, is that he's hitting just .176/.247/.203 and has an achy shoulder.
