Padres placed OF Manuel Margot on the paternity leave list.

Jul 20 - 5:10 PM

Dustin Pedroia went 3-for-5 with a three-run homer Thursday against the Blue Jays.

Pedroia drove in nine runs during the four-game series against Toronto. He has 26 RBI in his last 20 games, matching his total from his first 59 games.

Mike Wright (shoulder) will pitch two innings in Saturday's rehab appearances with the Gulf Coast Orioles.

Wright is hoping for a better outing Saturday after being lit up for four runs in 2/3 of an inning in his first rehab appearance on Monday. The 27-year-old has spent the past month recovering from shoulder bursitis. Look for him to return as a long reliever.
Jul 20 - 4:47 PM

Anthony Santander (forearm) will begin a rehab assignment on July 27.

Santander has spent most of the year nursing a strained forearm and was just recently cleared to play the outfield. He'll likely report to Double-A Bowie after he finishes his rehab assignment.
Jul 20 - 4:44 PM

Ryan Flaherty (shoulder) will begin a minor league rehab assignment on July 27.

Flaherty's recovery from shoulder tendinitis has had plenty of stops and starts but it looks like he'll be game-ready in about a week. The veteran utility man has hit just .233 with no homers over 30 at-bats this season.
Jul 20 - 4:43 PM

Josh Rutledge (concussion) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Pawtucket on Thursday.

He's batting fifth and DHing at home against Norfolk. Rutledge has been out a month with a concussion but appears to be on the mend. When healthy, he'll occupy a third base platoon with Brock Holt. Of course, that's assuming Boston doesn't add a third baseman at the trade deadline.

According to Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports, the Rays have been "looking at" A.J. Ramos.

Per Heyman, the Rays are also in the running for Tigers closer Justin Wilson, though he's being pursued by a number of other teams and probably a long shot to end up in Tampa Bay. The Marlins just traded setup man David Phelps to the Mariners and dealing Ramos could be their next move. Ramos hasn't had the smoothest year (4.08 ERA, 1.30 WHIP) but he's only blown two saves and still carries an impressive 11.46 K/9 over 36 outings. He'd be an upgrade for a Rays bullpen that ranks 21st in the league in ERA (4.37).
Jul 20 - 4:20 PM

Jameson Taillon improved to 6-3 after allowing two runs over 5 1/3 innings in Thursday's win over the Brewers.

Taillon struck out eight today. He's fanned 22 batters in 15 1/3 innings this month, which includes his two high strikeout games of the year (eight today and nine against the Phillies on July 4). It seems like a pretty strong second half is on the way.
