Kyle Lohse has elected free agency.
Not surprisingly, he declined an outright assignment to Triple-A Round Rock. Lohse allowed 13 earned runs in two starts with Texas and the 37-year-old could be nearing the end of the line.
Andrew Cashner will make his Marlins debut on Sunday against the Cardinals.
Colin Rea will take the ball on Saturday, as both new acquisitions will pitch on regular rest. Cashner and Rea were acquired from the Padres on Friday in a seven-player trade.
Rangers optioned RHP Shawn Tolleson to Triple-A Round Rock.
It's been quite a fall for Tolleson, who began the season as the Rangers' closer. He's been knocked around for 12 runs this month to push his ERA for the season up to 7.68.
Carlos Gomez (hamstring) hopes to return to the lineup on Sunday.
Gomez injured his right hamstring in Wednesday's win over the Yankees. He underwent an MRI, which apparently revealed just a minor strain. Gomez said Friday that he's feeling better and hopes to be ready to go later this weekend. Jake Marisnick is in center field Friday.
Nationals recalled C Pedro Severino from Triple-A Syracuse.
He'll back up Wilson Ramos while Jose Lobaton (elbow) is out. Severino doesn't figure to play much.
Nationals placed C Jose Lobaton on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to July 20, with left elbow tendinitis.
It's his non-throwing elbow but evidently was giving him enough issue that he needs at least a couple weeks off. Pedro Severino is replacing Lobaton on the roster.
Mets placed OF Juan Lagares on the 15-day disabled list with a torn ligament in his left thumb.
Lagares tried to play through the injury, but it didn't work. He'll undergo surgery and be sidelined for six weeks. Brandon Nimmo is replacing him on the roster.
Rich Hill (blister) will not start for the Athletics on Sunday against the Indians.
Hill threw a bullpen session Friday without a covering on his blistered left middle finger. While the blister is doing better, he's still not ready to take the ball. That means he will not make another start before the trade deadline and will have gone over two weeks in between starts. It obviously is going to affect his trade market, although he still seems likely to be dealt. Sonny Gray will start on regular rest Sunday.
