Mariners released RHP Pat Light.

Light had allowed eight earned runs in three innings of relief this season at Triple-A Tacoma. The 27-year-old former supplemental first-round pick owns an 11.34 ERA in 17 career major league appearances.

Ben Zobrist (back) could be available off the bench Thursday against the Cardinals.

Zobrist has been struggling through a minor back injury, but Cubs manager Joe Maddon said Thursday morning that the veteran utilityman is feeling much better. Zobrist, 36, holds an impressive .326/.408/.465 batting line with seven RBI through 49 plate appearances this season.

Zach Britton (heel) is scheduled to throw off a half-mound on Friday.

It'll be a significant step for the 30-year-old closer, who ruptured his right Achilles tendon in an offseason workout back in January. Roch Kubatko of MASN wrote in late March that people with the Orioles think "early June" is a possibility for Britton's return. Brad Brach is currently serving as Baltimore's ninth-inning man.

Twins manager Paul Molitor said he thinks Max Kepler (knee) is "going to be OK."

Kepler was pulled from Wednesday's series finale against the Indians with some discomfort in his right knee, but Molitor says that move was mostly precautionary. The Twins have an off day Thursday as they make their way back from San Juan, Puerto Rico. Kepler will be reevaluated ahead of Friday night's series opener at Tampa Bay. Ryan LaMarre replaced him in the outfield Wednesday and went on to hit a walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the 16th inning.

Mets signed RHP Scott Copeland to a minor league contract.

Copeland hasn't appeared in a major league game since 2015, when he registered a 6.46 ERA and 1.70 WHIP in 15 1/3 innings (three starts, two relief appearances) with the Blue Jays. The 30-year-old right-hander will presumably work out of the bullpen at Triple-A Las Vegas.
Apr 19 - 11:30 AM

Mets signed RHP Vance Worley to a minor league contract.

Worley struggled this spring in Reds camp, posting a 6.17 ERA over 11 2/3 innings of Grapefruit League action. And he was even worse with the Marlins during the 2017 regular season, registering a 6.91 ERA across 71 2/3 frames. This is an organizational depth signing for the Mets.

Tommy Pham told Jim Hayes of Fox Sports Midwest on Thursday that his right groin is fine.

Pham felt some discomfort in the groin toward the end of Tuesday night's win over the Cubs, but he finished out that game in center field and could be available in Thursday afternoon's makeup (for Wednesday's rainout) at Wrigley Field. St. Louis will instead play it safe, starting Harrison Bader in center and batting him second Thursday against Cubs left-hander Jon Lester. Pham should be back in there for Friday's series opener versus the Reds.

Tommy Pham (groin) is not in the Cardinals' starting lineup Thursday afternoon against the Cubs.

Pham has been bothered by a right groin issue and was scheduled to undergo tests Wednesday in Chicago. The results of those tests have not been revealed. Pham did play all nine innings of Tuesday night's victory at Wrigley Field; Wednesday's game got postponed. Harrison Bader is starting in center field and batting second Thursday versus Cubs left-hander Jon Lester.
