Adam Lind hit a two-run home run in a 2-for-5 effort as the Brewers topped the Phillies on Wednesday.

Lind got the scoring started, taking Aaron Harang yard in the first inning for a two-run shot. The first baseman now has 12 home runs, 44 RBI, and a .294/.366/.506 triple-slash line on the season.

Scooter Gennett went 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles, a triple, three RBI, and two runs scored to lead the Brewers past the Phillies on Wednesday.

It's his first three-hit game of the year and only his sixth multi-hit game. Gennett doubled and scored on Adam Lind's homer in the first inning, scored after reaching on a fielder's choice in the fourth, hit a two-run double in the sixth, and ripped an RBI triple in the eighth. He otherwise has not had much to write home about offensively, batting .224/.260/.392 with four home runs and 12 RBI.

Rays optioned 1B Marc Krauss to Triple-A Durham.

Krauss was 1-for-10 with seven strikeouts in four games with the Rays since being acquired from the Angels on June 25. He was optioned to make room for Matt Moore on the active roster.

Carlos Carrasco came within one strike of a no-hitter and ended up fanning 13 in the Indians' 8-1 drubbing of the Rays on Wednesday.

After a walk and a HBP to start the ninth, Carrasco battled back to retire the next two batters he faced. He then got ahead of Joey Butler 0-2, only to see Butler get enough of a slider to drive it over Jason Kipnis's head for an RBI single. It was Carrasco's 124th pitch of the night, so he came out afterwards, and Austin Adams finished up the one-hitter. Carrasco moved to 10-6 with a 3.88 ERA. He's been quite a bit better than that ERA suggests, but the Indians defense just hasn't been up to par.

Alex Colome gave up five runs in seven innings Wednesday in a loss to the Indians.

Colome probably deserved to lose this one, but he hardly deserves to be winless in his last eight starts (the Rays are averaging just 3.0 runs per game in his 13 starts this season). Now 3-4 with a 4.70 ERA, his rotation spot would seem to be in jeopardy after Matt Moore returns.

Sean Doolittle (shoulder) said he expects to start playing catch toward the end of next week.

Doolittle continues to recover from a strained left shoulder. The southpaw has made just one appearance this season between disabled list stints. He won't be eligible to return until late July.
Jul 1 - 10:00 PM

Brandon Moss had a three-run homer and a two-run double Wednesday against the Rays.

Moss's average has been slipping some, but the power has been consistent; he hit four homers in each of the first three months of the season. He's now driven in 42 runs in 72 games.

Marc Krauss struck out in both of his at-bats Wednesday before being removed for a pinch-hitter.

Incredibly, it's the second time in four games for the Rays that Krauss, a left-handed hitter, has been replaced by a right-handed pinch-hitter against a right-handed pitcher. Which makes one wonder why the Rays are playing him at first base or why they bothered acquiring him in the first place. He's 1-for-10 so far for the team.
