The New York Daily News believes the Jets could have interest in trading for Texans CB Johnathan Joseph.

The Jets are desperate for corner depth with Dee Milliner (ankle) sidelined, leaving Darrin Walls and Antonio Allen to start in base sets. Joseph missed the entire preseason recovering from toe surgery, but is expected to be ready for Week 1. His $11.25 million cap number makes a trade unlikely.

Cardinals RB coach Stump Mitchell believes Andre Ellington will be an every-down back this season.

"He can do it all," Mitchell said. "He's a great route runner. Excellent in terms of vision and the ability to catch and cut. Very serviceable as a pass blocker. He can stay in and be an every-down back, which a lot of teams don't do nowadays." Despite the Cardinals using Ellington in a three-down role throughout the preseason, there's been concern about his ability to handle a full workload. Jonathan Dwyer remains a candidate to spell him on inside runs, but isn't a threat to have a major role. Ellington offers RB1 upside at his early third-round ADP.

The Jets may start Darrin Walls and Antonio Allen at cornerback in Week 1.

Dee Milliner (high ankle sprain) seems doubtful to be ready to face the Raiders, while Kyle Wilson is a slot corner. Walls is a former undrafted free agent out of Notre Dame. Allen is a converted safety. The Jets should be hoping the Raiders start Matt Schaub, rather than impressive rookie Derek Carr.

Coach Tom Coughlin indicated Saturday that the Giants don't anticipate Odell Beckham (hamstring) being ready for Week 1.

Coughlin said the Giants specifically kept Preston Parker on the 53-man roster to return punts, "because Odell Beckham was going to be the punt returner." When Beckham finally heals up, he'll slide in on punt returns while pushing for snaps in three- and four-receiver sets. For the foreseeable future, the 12th overall pick in May's draft is off the re-draft fantasy radar.

Ravens CB Jimmy Smith (chest) confirmed he expects to play in Week 1.

Smith was held out of Baltimore's final two preseason games, but returned to practice Saturday. He should be cleared for full team drills next week. The Ravens also expect to have Lardarius Webb (back) and Asa Jackson (ankle) available for the regular-season opener.

The Chicago Tribune suggests rookie RB Ka'Deem Carey may not be active on game days to open the season.

Carey was beaten out by Shaun Draughn for Chicago's primary backup tailback job, and No. 4 back Senorise Perry has more special teams value. Carey was one of the most disappointing rookies in the NFL during the 2014 preseason.

Free agent CB Champ Bailey plans to continue playing following his Saturday release from the Saints.

"Definitely and he is fully healthy now," were the words of Bailey's agent. "He had a plantar (foot) problem which is resolved. He just missed too much time for the coach's evaluation to be complete." Although Bailey's agent is projecting optimism, it's ominous that Bailey was dealing with a foot issue after his foot limited him to five games for the Broncos in 2013. Now 36, Bailey will have to prove he's 100 percent before another team takes a shot on him.

Chiefs placed WR Kyle Williams (shoulder) on injured reserve.

Williams suffered a shoulder injury in the Chiefs' preseason finale. He was competing for one of the final receiver spots before going down. Williams could be released with a settlement when healthy.
