Francisco Liriano pitched well against the Dodgers on Wednesday, holding them to one run over seven innings en route to his second win of the season.

Liriano didn't have the strikeout stuff working the way he did in his last start against the Rockies, but he limited the Dodgers to four hits and a pair of walks while fanning seven. The lefty finished the seventh inning for the first time since April 21. Now with a 4.18 ERA, 1.43 WHIP, and 93/47 K/BB ratio, Liriano will look to keep it going against the Giants on the road next week.

Yunel Escobar was ejected from Wednesday's game against the Cardinals for arguing balls and strikes.

Escobar took a called strike three in the fourth inning and took exception to the call. Home plate umpire Dan Bellino took exception to his exception and threw Escobar out of the game. It was the Rays' second ejection in two nights after manager Joe Maddon was tossed from Tuesday's game in what turned out to be a miscommunication of sorts.

Jorge De La Rosa struck out 11 batters while allowing two runs -- one earned -- over 7 1/3 innings in the Rockies' 6-4 win over the Nationals on Wednesday.

De La Rosa allowed eight hits without walking a batter, and the left-hander hasn't allowed more than two runs in any of his four starts this month. The strong outing raised his record to 11-6 with a 4.19 ERA through 21 starts. He'll try to continue his strong stretch of starts when he faces the Cubs at Wrigley next week.

LaTroy Hawkins allowed two runs and stranded the bases loaded in a non-save situation against the Nationals on Wednesday.

Hawkins entered the game with a four-run lead and got two quick outs before the Nationals strung together four straight hits. A fielding error loaded the bases with the winning run at first, but Ian Desmond struck out to end the threat. Hawkins has a 3.09 ERA after Wednesday's outing, and the struggles of Rex Brothers and Adam Ottavino have given the 41-year-old some job protection in his hold on the Rockies' closer role.

Corey Dickerson went 2-for-3 with two doubles, an RBI and two runs scored in a win over the Nationals on Wednesday.

Dickerson continues to light the world on fire, as he's now got five multi-hit games over his last seven starts. The two-hit, two-double day raised his overall line to .336/.403/.594. The 25-year-old is part of a crowded Rockies outfield, but he's not going anywhere with the numbers he's putting up of late.

Ubaldo Jimenez (ankle) threw a 35-pitch bullpen session and did some running drills Wednesday.

The throwing session was supposed to be the last step before a rehab assignment for Jimenez, who has been on the disabled list since July 11. Jimenez called it a step forward but said he didn't know where or where his next step would be. The right-hander will likely embark on a rehab assignment in the coming days, with a more clear return date to be known at that time.

Denard Span finished 4-for-5 with an RBI, two runs scored and a stolen base in a loss to the Rockies on Wednesday.

Span played catalyst at the top of the Nationals lineup, doing everything he could to will the team to a comeback victory. The stolen base was his 17th of the season, and the outfielder is hitting .282/.333/.393 with 61 runs scored.

Mets sent RHP Buddy Carlyle outright to Triple-A Las Vegas.

Carlyle cleared waivers and can now elect free agency. The 36-year-old may find a suitor after posting a 1.29 ERA in seven innings with the Mets.
