Texans fired OC George Godsey.

Jan 16 - 5:03 PM

Texans signed RB Kenny Hilliard, DE Brandon Dunn, TE RaShaun Allen, OT Laurence Gibson, WR Tevin Jones, OLB Eric Lee, ILB Shakeel Rashad, and OG Chad Slade to reserve/future contracts.

They all finished the season on Houston's practice squad. Hilliard often impresses in preseason games, but he's been unable to get past Alfred Blue for the past two seasons.
Jan 16 - 5:02 PM

Cowboys signed TE Connor Hamlett, CB Jeremiah McKinnon, CB Duke Thomas, LS Zach Wood, RB Rod Smith, DB Jameill Showers, CB Sammy Seamster, DE Lenny Jones, LB Jeremiah George, WR Shaq Evans, OG Kadeem Edwards, and OG Klay DeBord to a reserve/future contract.

They are mostly practice squad players. Hamlett is a former undrafted free agent out of Oregon State. He caught a 17-yard touchdown in Week 5 against the Patriots.

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll gave OC Darrell Bevell a strong statement of support in Monday's season-ending presser.

Specifically, Carroll said folks who criticize Bevell "don't know what they're talking about." The 2016 Seahawks finished 12th in the NFL in yards but only 18 in points scored while dealing with league-worst offensive line play. Bevell would be easier to evaluate if his offensive line weren't so easily penetrated. Ultimately, the offense Bevell oversaw did reasonably well with what it had.

Packers coach Mike McCarthy said Monday that he's "not sure" if Jordy Nelson (ribs) will be able to practice by Wednesday.

McCarthy did say Nelson "worked out" on Monday as he attempts to stay in shape while sitting with fractured ribs. We'd consider Nelson a long shot to face the Falcons at this stage of the week, but Nelson could try to gut it out if he feels well by the weekend. The Packers head to the Georgia Dome on Sunday.

The 49ers are currently interviewing Seahawks co-director of player personnel Scott Fitterer for their GM vacancy.

Fitterer spent the last 15 seasons with the Seahawks, arriving as an area scout and working his way up to a right-hand-man position behind GM John Schneider. The 49ers have also shown interest in Fitterer's co-personnel director Trent Kirchner, and Seahawks OL coach Tom Cable as a head-coaching candidate.

The Seahawks expect FS Earl Thomas (broken tibia) to be ready for Week 1 of the 2017 season.

Thomas' difference-making presence was felt severely down the stretch as Seattle allowed point totals above 30 in three of their final six games and became increasingly vulnerable to big plays, both in the run and pass games. Thomas turns 28 in May. The Seahawks have him signed for $8.5 million in 2017.
Jan 16 - 3:40 PM

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said Tyler Lockett (fibula/tibia) should be ready for Week 1 of the 2017 season.

Lockett's broken fibula and tibia ended his season and may have played role in Seattle's inability to hang offensively with Atlanta in Saturday's Divisional Round loss. For the second straight year, Lockett's offensive role began slowly before taking off down the stretch, prior to his injury. Lockett remains an intriguing Dynasty stash, although Paul Richardson made a big case for extended 2017 snaps. The Seahawks should consider moving on from Jermaine Kearse.
