Cliff Pennington delivered a game-tying single in the sixth and a game-ending sac fly in the 10th as the Diamondbacks topped the Rockies 4-3 on Friday.

Pennington remains a fine utilityman, but the Diamondbacks haven't gotten a ton of use from him this year with Nick Ahmed playing well at short and Aaron Hill acting as the primary fallback at second and third. The runs batted in he collected tonight were just his sixth and seventh of the season, and it was also only his second multihit game.

Brandon Barnes went 0-for-3 before being removed as part of a double-switch Friday against the Diamondbacks.

Barnes should start losing some time now that the Rockies have brought Drew Stubbs back to the majors. Barnes still has a decent .276 average, but it's going down quickly and he doesn't bring much else to the table.
Jul 4 - 1:54 AM

Wilmer Flores went 3-for-4 with an RBI as the Mets beat the Dodgers 2-1 on Friday.

Flores singled in the Mets' first run in the fourth and collected an infield single during the ninth-inning rally that decided the game. The three hits match his total from his previous six starts combined. He does have 10 homers this season, but getting on base just hasn't been a strength for him.
Jul 4 - 1:52 AM

Noah Syndergaard was lifted after allowing one run and two hits in six innings Friday against the Dodgers.

Syndergaard only walked two, but it still took him 107 pitches to get through six. Needless to say, the Mets weren't going to give him a chance to match last week's eight innings of one-run ball against the Reds. Syndergaard lowered his ERA to 3.38. He's allowed one or no earned runs in six of his 10 starts.
Jul 4 - 1:50 AM

Michael Bourn went 2-for-3 with three RBI in Friday's win over the Pirates.

Bourn doubled in a run in the fourth inning, then punched in two more with a single in the eighth to give his team a three run lead and some much needed breathing room. They would ultimately win 5-2. While he does have five hits in his last 11 at-bats, Bourn is still hitting just .234/.305/.284 for the year. He only has 10 extra-base hits and has yet to connect on his first home run.
Jul 4 - 1:48 AM

Clayton Kershaw wasn't involved in the decision after allowing one run in seven innings Friday against the Mets.

At least it wasn't a fourth straight loss. Kershaw just isn't getting any help from the Dodgers, and he might well miss out on the All-Star Game because of it. He's 5-6 with a 3.08 ERA and a 147/27 K/BB in 114 IP.
Jul 4 - 1:47 AM

Michael Cuddyer struck out as a pinch-hitter Friday against the Dodgers.

It was his first appearance since leaving Tuesday's game with a sore knee. It's possible he'll rejoin the starting lineup on Saturday.
Jul 4 - 1:44 AM

Starling Marte went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts in Friday's loss to the Indians.

The 0-for-4 jaunt snapped Marte's eight-game hitting streak. It's been a career best season to this point for the outfielder, who will set a personal best for homers when he hits his next one (he's currently at 13, same as the number he hit all of last year). He's hitting .284/.333/.465 through 299 at-bats in 2015.
