Twins purchased the contract of LHP Caleb Thielbar from Triple-A Rochester.
Thielbar, a member of the independent St. Paul Saints just a couple years ago, was sporting a cool 3.76 ERA and 34/8 K/BB ratio in 26 1/3 innings this season at the Triple-A level. He will serve as a middle reliever.
Twins optioned LHP Pedro Hernandez to Triple-A Rochester.
Hernandez had a rough 5.85 ERA, 1.67 WHIP and 17/10 K/BB ratio through his first 32 1/3 innings. The Twins will add a new piece to their starting rotation on Friday.
Athletics sent RHP Chris Resop outright to Triple-A Sacramento.
Resop was designated for assignment by Oakland last week and passed through waivers. The right-hander had a 6.00 ERA and 13/10 K/BB ratio in 18 innings with the A's.
Zack Cozart (illness) is not in the Reds' lineup Monday.
Cozart also sat out on Saturday afternoon. Cesar Izturis will start at shortstop Monday against the Mets.
Shin-Soo Choo is not in the Reds' starting lineup on Monday night against the Mets.
It's just a routine day of maintenance for Choo. Derrick Robinson will start in center field and bat leadoff.
A.J. Pierzynski (oblique) is expected to return to the Rangers' active roster on Tuesday.
Pierzynski played in rehab games on Sunday and Monday and reported feeling fine. The 36-year-old catcher has been out since May 5 with a strained right oblique. He was batting .263/.297/.411 with four home runs and 11 RBI in 26 games before hitting the shelf.
Brett Myers (elbow) will make his second minor league rehab start on Wednesday at Double-A Akron.
Myers threw 33 pitches last week in his first rehab start and will probably try to top 50 pitches on Wednesday. He'll make at least one more start in the minors after that before being considered for activation. The right-hander is attempting to pitch through a UCL tear.
Marlins purchased the contract of 1B/OF Jordan Brown from Triple-A New Orleans.
Brown was sporting a weak .261/.305/.336 batting line at the Triple-A level. He will not carry any fantasy value.
