Jeremy Guthrie pitched a strong game in earning a no-decision against the Twins on Friday, allowing two runs on five hits over 7 1/3 innings.

Despite Guthrie's strong performance, the pitcher did not receive a decision in the game, as the contest was knotted at 2-2 until the Royals snapped the tie in the bottom of the 10th inning. Guthrie struck out four and walked one, lowering his ERA to a still-awful 5.42. He also holds a 1.46 WHIP. None of these numbers are good, obviously. Guthrie will try to repeat his results from Friday when he faces the Rays in a home start next Wednesday.

Tommy Milone held the Royals down on Friday, allowing just one run on five hits over six innings.

Outside of a run-scoring single by Lorenzo Cain in the third inning, Milone managed to keep the Royals off the scoreboard. He struck out five and walked just one in hurling his fifth quality start in a row. The southpaw now owns a 3.02 ERA and 1.27 WHIP. Deeper AL-only formats should consider him as a pick-up, particularly with the way he's pitching at the moment. He won't strike out many batters, but his numbers are rock solid.
Jul 4 - 12:20 AM

Carlos Correa went 3-for-6 with a solo home run, two RBI and two runs scored in Friday's 12-8, 10-inning win over the Red Sox.

Correa's homer off Craig Breslow in the eighth inning was the rookie phenom's sixth of the season and his RBI single in the 10th snapped an 8-8 tie. The 20-year-old shortstop has lived up to the hype since his call-up and is currently slashing .300/.320/.570 with six homers and 17 RBI. There are bound to be bumps in the road as major league pitchers make adjustments, but Correa's career is off to a fantastic start.
Jul 4 - 12:17 AM

Jose Altuve went 3-for-5 with two RBI in Friday's 12-8, 10-inning win over the Red Sox.

Altuve's RBI single in the seventh inning scored two runs and gave the diminutive second baseman 35 batted in for the season. He's now put up back-to-back three-hit games and is working with a .303/.348/.424 slash-line for the year. With 90 hits through 74 games, Altuve is a near-lock to finish with 200+ hits as long as he stays healthy.

Twins optioned RHP Alex Meyer to Triple-A Rochester.

The 25-year-old struggled in his two appearances with the big league club, allowing five runs in 2 2/3 innings (16.88 ERA). He will continue to work out of the bullpen at Triple-A and should make his way back to the Twins at some point this summer.
Jul 4 - 12:05 AM

David Ortiz went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI in Friday's loss to the Astros.

Ortiz's run-scoring two-bagger in the eighth inning knotted the score at 8-8, but the Astros would go on to score four times in the 10th inning to drop the Red Sox to a disappointing 37-45. The two runs driven in pushed Ortiz's season RBI total to 41. He's slashing .233/.321/.433, numbers that are a far cry from those in the height of his Hall of Fame caliber career. The counting stats are there, at least, as Ortiz has hit 14 homers and driven in the aforementioned 41 runs.
Jul 4 - 12:02 AM

Hanley Ramirez went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's loss to the Astros.

Ramirez's solo homer in the second inning opened the scoring for the game. He drove in his second run of the contest on a fielder's choice in the fifth inning of a wild contest that saw the teams combine for 28 hits and 20 runs. The outfielder was hit in the left hand on June 24, but after missing a week, he's played in each of the last three games and is now working on an eight-game hitting streak as he looks to add to his 17 homers, 41 RBI and .280/.328/.500 triple-slash.
Jul 3 - 11:56 PM

Brian McCann belted a walkoff three-run home run in the 11th inning on Friday, propelling the Yankees to a 7-5 come-from-behind victory against the Rays.

The Yankees were on the ropes a couple of times in the ballgame but never stopped fighting. They trailed 3-0 heading into the eighth inning where Mark Teixeira connected on a three-run homer to tie the game and force extra innings, then trailed 5-3 in the 11th before McCann's heroic blast against Steve Geltz. It was the veteran backstop's lone hit in five at-bats on the night and he also drew a walk. He has been one of the best offensive catchers in the league this season, slashing a healthy .264/.333/.477 with 13 long balls and 52 RBI.
