Tanner Scheppers has been diagnosed with a left abdominal strain.

He'll require further evaluation and no timetable for his return has been noted yet. The club also hasn't ruled out a sports hernia for the right-hander. It looks increasingly likely that he'll start the season on the disabled list.

Brewers reassigned RHP Hiram Burgos to minor league camp.

The right-hander had a chance to earn a spot in the Opening Day bullpen with a strong spring, but instead registered a 17.36 ERA, 3.00 WHIP and 3/1 K/BB ratio in 4 2/3 innings. He'll serve as bullpen depth at Triple-A to start the season.

Diamondbacks optioned RHP Zack Godley to Triple-A Reno.

The right-hander was competing for a spot in the Opening Day bullpen but struggled to the tune of a 5.87 ERA, 1.96 WHIP and 8/2 K/BB ratio in 7 2/3 innings during Cactus League play. He'll presumably be stretched back out as a starter at Triple-A where he'll function as rotation depth.

Diamondbacks released RHP Kevin Jepsen.

Jepsen was on the outside looking in at a spot in the Opening Day bullpen, so he'll have a week to try to land on his feet elsewhere. The veteran right-hander sported a troublesome 12.27 ERA, 2.45 WHIP and .400 batting average against in 3 2/3 innings during Cactus League play.

Miguel Cabrera said Saturday that his back is improving and that he's scheduled to play first base in a Grapefruit League game on Sunday.

He'll take batting practice on Saturday and if all goes well he'll return to game action on Sunday. Provided he can avoid any further setbacks, he should be ready to go for the start of the regular season. At this point, there's no reason for his stock to be falling in fantasy drafts.
Mar 25 - 11:19 AM

Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports reports that the Rangers and Rougned Odor are in agreement on a six-year, $49.5 million contract extension.

Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News had reported earlier that the two sides were close to a deal. Heyman also notes that the deal includes an option for a seventh season which could push the total of deal even higher. The 23-year-old was set to be eligible for arbitration in 2018 and a free agent in 2021.

Tigers manager Brad Ausmus announced Saturday that Michael Fulmer will start the team's home opener against the Red Sox on Friday, April 7.

With Justin Verlander set to start on Opening Day, expect Jordan Zimmermann and Daniel Norris to work in some order in the second and third games of the season. Matt Boyd continues to be the leading candidate for the fifth and final spot in the rotation to start the season.
Mar 25 - 11:10 AM

Chris Stewart (groin) is optimistic that he'll be ready for Opening Day.

The veteran backstop underwent a precautionary MRI after leaving Friday's Grapefruit League contest with a sore left groin. He felt much better on Saturday morning though and has been prescribed only rest and treatment for the injury. He'll serve as the primary backup behind starting catcher Francisco Cervelli in 2017.
