Nolan Arenado left Thursday's game against the Braves with an apparent hand injury.

He bowed out in the seventh inning after taking a hard grounder off his glove hand. It's the same hand that Arenado bruised when he was hit by a pitch Sunday against Miami. Rookie Ryan McMahon replaced Arenado at the hot corner while Mark Reynolds came off the bench to play first base. Arenado went 1-for-2 with a walk and a double before exiting.

Mets optioned RHP Kevin McGowan to Triple-A Las Vegas.

McGowan didn't see the field during his four-day stint in the majors. Perhaps we'll see him again when rosters expand next month.

Twins recalled LHP Nik Turley from Triple-A Rochester.

Buddy Boshers was optioned to Rochester in the corresponding move. The Twins wanted a fresh bullpen arm for the second game of their day/night doubleheader against the Indians. The left-hander will fill a long/middle relief role for Minnesota.

Twins optioned LHP Buddy Boshers to Triple-A Rochester.

The left-hander has been in a rut lately, allowing five runs over his last two outings (1 IP). Perhaps a change of scenery in Rochester will do him some good. Regardless, he should be back when rosters expand in September.

X-rays on Jose Ramirez's right forearm/wrist came back negative.

Ramirez left Thursday's matinee in the second inning after taking a 93 mph fastball off his right forearm but looks to be all right. In fact, Indians manager Terry Francona said he could be available for the second game of Thursday's day/night doubleheader. Giovanny Urshela handled third base after Ramirez exited and will likely draw the start there in Game 2 against Twins rookie Aaron Slegers.

Yan Gomes went 3-for-3 with a homer, four RBI, a walk and a HBP as the Indians topped the Twins 9-3 in the first game of Thursday's doubleheader.

It's the first time in his career he's reached base safely five times in a game. He hadn't even reached four times in a game since Aug. 13, 2015 against the Yankees. Gomes had a great month of May this year, but he's otherwise been really quiet offensively. Even after today, he's hitting just .226 with eight homers and 37 RBI in 257 at-bats.

Carlos Carrasco fanned nine in five innings of one-run ball Thursday in the first game of a doubleheader against the Twins.

Carrasco got the win, moving him to 12-5 on the season. It would have been nice if he could have worked a little deeper into this one, considering the Indians still have at least nine more innings to go today, but he was inefficient, throwing 94 pitches.
Aug 17 - 5:35 PM

Kyle Gibson yielded three runs in four-plus innings Thursday in a loss to the Indians.

The good news is that Gibson hasn't allowed more than three runs in any of his last four starts. That bad news is that those starts keep getting shorter; he went six innings on July 22, followed by 5 1/3 on Aug. 5, 4 2/3 on Aug. 11 and four today. Gibson is 6-10 with a 6.05 ERA. He'd seem to be running out of chances at this point.
