Colts owner Jim Irsay confirmed Saturday that Peyton Manning is not a candidate to replace Ryan Grigson at GM.
He also insisted that coach Chuck Pagano's job is safe, at least for 2017. Multiple sources have reported that Irsay was aggressively pursuing Manning before he fired Grigson, but it doesn't seem like the interest was mutual. Jimmy Raye III has taken over as the Colts' interim GM and has a good chance of retaining the full-time gig.
According to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, Jordy Nelson (ribs, illness, questionable), Davante Adams (ankle, questionable) and Geronimo Allison (hamstring) will all be available for Sunday's NFC Championship Game against the Falcons.
Morgan Burnett is also expected to play after exiting last week's game with a thigh injury. Out of those four, only Burnett and Nelson were able to practice this week. Coach Mike McCarthy has acknowledged that if this were a regular season game, the receiving trio of Adams, Allison and Nelson would all be out this week. Jordy and company deserve credit for gutting it out at much less than 100 percent, but it's anyone's guess how long each player will last or how effective they'll be. Look for Randall Cobb and Jared Cook to be target hogs Sunday in what should be a high-scoring affair at the Georgia Dome.
ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Chris Hogan (thigh, questionable), Martellus Bennett (knee, questionable) and Malcolm Mitchell (knee, questionable) are all expected to play in Sunday's AFC Championship Game against the Steelers.
Danny Amendola (ankle) wasn't mentioned, but he should be out there as well. With the exception of Rob Gronkowski (back surgery, I.R.) it looks like Tom Brady will have his full complement of weapons on Sunday. With Mitchell returning from a two-game absence, Michael Floyd could end up being a healthy scratch for the AFC title game.
Texans C Nick Martin (ankle) is expected to be ready for OTAs.
A 2016 second-round pick, Martin missed his entire rookie year on IR. He’ll be full healthy for Houston’s offseason program. Martin should push Greg Mancz for the starting center job.
Texans CB Kevin Johnson (foot surgery) expects to be ready for offseason workouts.
Johnson spent the final 11 weeks on IR after suffering a Jones re-fracture. He’ll be moved slowly but could get in some work at OTAs. With A.J. Bouye a free agent, Johnson’s in line to open 2017 as Houston’s No. 3 corner.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports free agent LB Jamie Collins is seeking $12 million annually.
The Browns have made "significant progress" in extension talks, with a contract between the sides expected to be finalized soon. Collins is looking for Luke Kuechly money (5 years, $61.8M). With the most cap space in the league, Cleveland shouldn’t have trouble getting a deal done.
Colts owner Jim Irsay said Chuck Pagano will return in 2017.
"I hope Chuck can be our coach for many years to come. He is our coach," Irsay said. This confirms previous reports. The Colts are keeping Pagano for another year after firing GM Ryan Grigson. Coming off consecutive eight-win seasons, Pagano needs to make the playoffs to avoid getting fired.
NFL suspended free agent OL J'Marcus Webb the first four games of 2017.
It's likely a violation of the NFL's drug policy. Webb has been out of the league since getting cut from Seattle in November. The suspension puts his chances of a return in doubt.
