Phillies released OF Chris Coghlan.
Coghlan appeared to have a leg up for a bench spot, so this move comes as a surprise. With Coghlan out of the picture, the final two bench spots figure to come down to Jesmuel Valentin, Daniel Nava, and Max Stassi.
Rangers reassigned RHP Allen Webster and C A.J. Jimenez to minor league camp.
Webster, a non-roster invitee, posted a 4.02 ERA and 13/9 K/BB ratio over 15 2/3 innings during Cactus League action. The 27-year-old has the ability to become a free agent if he so chooses.
Lance McCullers is in line to start the second game of the regular season against the Mariners.
The Astros already announced Dallas Keuchel will start Opening Day, but now the rest of the rotation is falling into place. McCullers hasn't had the best spring, but there's monster upside if he can stay healthy. Charlie Morton, who is beginning to look like something of a sleeper, will start the third game of the season.
Juan Lagares (oblique) said Tuesday that an MRI showed only inflammation.
The Mets have yet to announce anything, but it sounds like the injury could have been much worse. Still, the calendar is working against him at this point, so a DL stint remains the most likely scenario.
Dee Gordon is expected to miss a couple of days after having a wisdom tooth removed.
Gordon should be back to normal within the next couple of days. He'll be fine for Opening Day.
Orioles optioned RHP Mike Wright to Triple-A Norfolk.
Wright struggled to the tune of an 8.38 ERA over four starts this spring. The 27-year-old will serve as rotation depth in Triple-A.
Ben Zobrist (neck) is back in the Cubs' Cactus League lineup on Tuesday.
Zobrist has been sidelined for over a week due to neck stiffness, but he plans to play Tuesday and Wednesday in Cactus League action and get some extra at-bats on the minor league side. Barring any setbacks, he should be good to go for Opening Day.
Andrew Susac (back) is expected to be cleared for some baseball activities.
Susac has been bothered by some discomfort around his trapezius muscle for a couple of weeks now, but a recent MRI came back negative. While he's making some progress, he's not ready for game action and a stint on the disabled list appears likely.
