Lucas Duda went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run, helping the Mets to a win on Tuesday against the Padres.

Duda staked the Mets to an early 2-0 lead when he drilled a James Shields offering over the fence in center field. Given how masterful Noah Syndergaard was on the mound, it was the only offense the Mets would need. Duda has three home runs in his last three games, giving him 15 on the season with 42 RBI and a .236/.338/.433 batting line.

James Shields allowed three runs in seven innings, taking a loss on Tuesday versus the Mets.

Shields allowed a two-run home run to Lucas Duda in the first inning, then got his act together and kept the Mets scoreless the rest of the way. He took the mound to begin the eighth, but allowed a leadoff double to Juan Lagares before being lifted. Shawn Kelly then allowed a two-run home run to Curtis Granderson. Shields yielded seven hits overall, walked none, and struck out four. A candidate to be moved by the July 31 trade deadline, the right-hander has a 3.77 ERA, a 1.30 WHIP, and a 148/47 K/BB ratio over 133 2/3 innings. He'll match up with the Marlins in Miami next.

Noah Syndergaard fired eight shutout innings -- and was perfect through the first six -- in Tuesday's win against the Padres.

Syndergaard lost his bid for a perfect game and a no-hitter when Will Venable led off the seventh inning with a single. It was one of only three hits he allowed on the evening while walking none and striking out nine. The right-hander has, in eight of 14 starts to begin his major league career, limited the opposition to one or zero runs. Syndergaard has an outstanding 2.70 ERA, a 1.07 WHIP, and a 91/20 K/BB ratio over 86 2/3 innings. He'll toe the slab at home against the Nationals next.

Jose Bautista left Tuesday's game versus the Phillies with an apparent right hamstring injury.

Bautista pulled up lame while running out a groundball. It looked like a potentially significant injury, but we'll have to wait and see what the Blue Jays say after the game.

Chris Cotillo of MLBDailyDish.com reports that it would take a "deadline type premium" for the Rays to trade Brad Boxberger or Jake McGee.

Boxberger isn't eligible for arbitration until after next season, so he always seemed unlikely to be dealt. It appears McGee will also probably stay put even though he's starting to get expensive in arbitration. Kevin Jepsen seems like the Rays reliever most likely to be on the move.

Angels designated RHP Vinnie Pestano for assignment.

It's been quite a fall for Pestano, who looked like one of the better relievers in the American League a few years ago. The 30-year-old has put up a 24/4 K/BB ratio over 20 Triple-A innings this season but holds a 5.40 ERA in 19 relief appearances with the big club. He'll clear waivers given his $1.15 million salary.

Indians acquired SS Eric Stamets from the Angels in exchange for OF David Murphy.

Stamets is known for a good glove but has hit just .262/.317/.351 with limited power in his four pro seasons. He was ranked prior to the season by Baseball America as the Angels' No. 23 prospect.

Angels acquired OF David Murphy and cash considerations from the Indians in exchange for SS Eric Stamets.

Murphy should take over as the regular left fielder against right-handers, although he could also see some start in the designated hitter spot. He's batting .296/.344/.437 this season and should form a solid platoon with Shane Victorino.
