Bartolo Colon carried a perfect game into the seventh inning Wednesday in the Mets' 3-2 win over the Mariners.

Robinson Cano ended the bid for perfection with a two-out single to shallow left field in the bottom of the seventh. Colon then gave up two runs in the eighth but wound up with his ninth victory of 2014. The 41-year-old right-hander has a 4.03 ERA, 1.15 WHIP, and 100/19 K/BB ratio in 134 innings this season. The Mets are known to be shopping him with the July 31 trade deadline drawing near.

Stephen Strasburg gave up four runs on nine hits over 5 1/3 innings in Wednesday's loss to the Rockies.

The Rockies got to Strasburg for three early runs before tacking on another in the sixth. The right-hander struck out five while walking three in the uncharacteristic start. He's struggled in both starts since the All-Star break, and Wednesday's loss dropped him below .500 at 7-8 on the year. Perhaps a date with the Marlins next week is what he needs to get back in the win column.

Taijuan Walker allowed two earned runs over five innings Wednesday in a loss to the Mets.

Walker allowed only two hits but walked six in the shaky outing -- his first at the major league level since July 6. The 21-year-old right-hander is expected to be sent back to Triple-A Tacoma by Thursday afternoon.

Kyle Blanks said Wednesday his injured left calf is "doing better, a lot better."

Blanks is dealing with a slight tear in the calf, and he's been on the disabled list since June 23. A's manager Bob Melvin said Blanks is nearing a rehab assignment but is still probably at least a week away. A return in mid-August appears like the most likely scenario for the 27-year-old.

Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said Wednesday "it's too early to call" whether the rest program prescribed for Masahiro Tanaka's right elbow will work.

The other option is obviously surgery, so the Yankees are going to give the program all the time they can before making a decision. Cashman did add that Tanaka is feeling better since he was shut down on July 10 due to a partial tear in his ulnar collateral ligament. He's still weeks away from any potential return to the mound.

Nolan Arenado had an RBI double and two runs scored in a win over the Nationals on Wednesday.

Arenado's 21st double of the year in the seventh inning pushed the Rockies' lead to 5-2, and he came around to score the team's sixth and final run later in the inning. He's got a hit in five straight games, with four RBI and five runs scored in that span.

Angels recalled DH C.J. Cron from Triple-A Salt Lake.

Cron was just optioned over the weekend, but a back injury to Grant Green opened up a spot for the slugger. Cron is hitting .269./297/.480 with nine home runs with the big club this season, and although he was recently demoted it would be surprising if he didn't see a fair amount of playing time while he's up. The 24-year-old has good power and is worth a flyer in deeper mixed leagues where he's still available.

Angels placed INF/OF Grant Green on the 15-day disabled list due to a lumbar sprain.

Green hadn't played since Sunday, and now we know why. The utility player is hitting .313/.321/.400 in a part-time role with the Angels this year. C.J. Cron was recalled to take his roster spot.
