Ryan Zimmerman is expected to be sidelined for the next 2-3 days after jamming his left shoulder on a diving play in Friday's Grapefruit League contest.

The Nationals don't believe that the injury is serious and do not have an MRI scheduled. Zimmerman remains fully confident that he will be in the team's lineup on Opening Day.

Vic Black (shoulder) is scheduled to throw 20 pitches off of a mound on Saturday.

It will be his first time doing so since being shut down on March 9 with shoulder tendinitis. While he is progressing nicely, his availability for Opening Day remains doubtful.

Twins optioned OF Aaron Hicks to Triple-A Rochester.

Once again, Hicks had an opportunity to seize the team's starting job in center field with a strong spring, but hit just .206/.300/.324 with a 9/5 K/BB ratio in 34 spring at-bats. It appears as though Jordan Schafer will function as the team's starting center fielder to begin the season.

Joe Nathan said Saturday that his injured thumbnail is progressing but is still tender.

He was able to throw fastballs in a throwing session on Friday and will attempt to throw breaking balls on Saturday. He's scheduled to return to game action on Monday. The veteran right-hander has been abysmal again this spring for the Tigers, but is still expected to begin the season in the closer's role for the Tigers.

Mets reassigned INF/OF Alex Castellanos and RHP Chase Bradford to minor league camp.

The 28-year-old was in camp competing for a spot on the Mets bench, but struggled to the tune of .222/.263/.472 with one homer, four RBI and a 12/1 K/BB ratio in 36 at-bats. He'll function as organizational depth at Triple-A for the time being.

Alex Cobb (forearm) said Saturday that he has yet to be cleared to begin throwing, but hopes to soon.

Cobb indicated on Monday that he's pain-free. Still, the team is playing things very cautiously in his recovery from forearm tendinitis, and there is no real reason to rush him back into action. It looks as though he may miss a start to begin the season, but should be ready to join the Rays rotation in mid-April.
Mar 28 - 9:02 AM

Christian Vazquez (elbow) said Saturday that his MRI "found something" but the team will get a second opinion before making a formal diagnosis.

That certainly doesn't sound promising for his chances of suiting up on Opening Day. Vazquez has been battling a sore right elbow for the past week or so which prompted the exam. If he is unavailable for the start of the season, Ryan Hanigan could function as the team's primary catcher.

J.J. Hardy indicated Saturday that his left shoulder was more sore than it was on Friday when he was removed from a Grapefruit League contest after sustaining the injury on a dive up the middle.

Hardy received treatment for the injury and will be held out of team workouts on Saturday. The injury is still believed to be minor and isn't expected to effect his availability for the start of the regular season.
