Kevin Gausman took a no-decision, pitching 7 2/3 scoreless innings in Monday's 11-inning, 2-1 victory against the Braves.

It was a tight-knit pitcher's duel between Gausman and Alex Wood as neither team could score through eight innings. Gausman scattered six hits and a walk while striking out five. Now with four starts under his belt since being recalled, two have been great, one has been mediocre, and one has been awful, resulting in an overall 4.20 ERA, 1.23 WHIP, and 34/12 K/BB ratio over 40 2/3 innings. Gausman matches up with the Tigers at home next.

Alex Wood fired 7 1/3 scoreless innings in a no-decision as the Braves lost in 11 innings to the Orioles on Monday.

Wood dominated the Orioles, limiting them to three hits and a pair of walks while fanning seven. It certainly registers as one of his finest starts this season. The lefty has a 3.54 ERA, a 1.41 WHIP, and a 90/36 K/BB ratio over 119 1/3 innings. Wood will vie for his third consecutive win when he takes the mound in Philadelphia this weekend versus the Phillies.

Rays optioned INF Jake Elmore to Triple-A Durham.

Elmore has hit just .206/.263/.284 with the Rays this season. Asdrubal Cabrera (hamstring) will be activated Tuesday.

Adonis Garcia hit a solo home run in the ninth inning, but the Braves lost in 11 frames to the Orioles on Monday.

Garcia finished 2-for-5 overall. His home run, off of Zach Britton, broke a scoreless tie and put the Braves in position to sneak away with a win but Jim Johnson blew the save in the bottom half of the inning. The 30-year-old Cuban has homered in back-to-back games.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Nationals are "hottest" on Craig Kimbrel.

The Nats have also been linked to Aroldis Chapman, as they appear determined to land an elite closer despite Drew Storen's fine season. Rosenthal adds that the Padres asked for Trea Turner (who they traded to Washington over the winter) from the Nationals in trade talks but were told it wouldn't happen.
Jul 27 - 10:35 PM

Matt Wieters clubbed a walk-off solo home run in the 11th inning against the Braves on Monday.

The two clubs brought a 0-0 game into the ninth inning, and each team scored once in their half-inning to send the game into extras. Wieters ended the drama with a walk-off solo job to right-center off of Luis Avilan. It's the catcher's first home run since June 25, as he has been scuffling offensively. Wieters is hitting .250/.276/.431 with four home runs and 13 RBI since making his season debut on June 5.

Joe Blanton pitched the final three innings of Monday's 9-4 win over the Indians, earning his second save.

With the Royals ahead 9-1, Blanton allowed a three-run home run to Francisco Lindor in the seventh, but only one of those runs was charged to him. It's a save only in the technical sense, as the Royals were never in any real danger of losing Monday's contest.
Jul 27 - 10:31 PM

Cody Anderson was hit around in Monday's loss to the Royals, yielding seven runs in 5 2/3 innings.

Anderson entered the start having allowed seven runs in 33 innings spanning five starts. He doubled that with Monday's effort. The Royals got to him early, as Eric Hosmer hit a three-run homer in the first and Omar Infante tacked on a solo shot in the second. Anderson allowed eight hits and a pair of walks overall while striking out two. He'll bring a 3.26 ERA, a 1.03 WHIP, and a 14/5 K/BB ratio over 38 2/3 innings into his next start in Oakland versus the Athletics.
