Shelby Miller (elbow) sent his MRI results to Dr. James Andrews.
Andrews is usually the doctor players see before getting Tommy John surgery, so obviously Miller is dealing with more than a garden variety elbow injury. Even if Miller gets good news from Andrews, we wouldn't expect to see him on a big league mound anytime soon. It's been one disaster after another for Miller since joining the Diamondbacks in 2016.
Padres optioned RHP Kevin Quackenbush to Triple-A El Paso.
The Padres had to send someone down after claiming Kirby Yates off waivers from the Angels. The right-hander has hurled five scoreless innings in the big leagues this year. Quackenbush should be back up the next time the bullpen needs a fresh arm.
Giants transferred OF Jarrett Parker to the 60-day disabled list.
The move allowed the Giants to add Michael Morse to their 40-man roster. Parker collided with the outfield wall last week and broke his collarbone. The Giants will be without him for at least another two months.
Cody Bellinger will bat leadoff Wednesday against the Giants.
Talk about being thrown into the fire. In just his second MLB game, Bellinger will handle leadoff duties against perennial Cy Young contender Johnny Cueto. The talented 21-year-old earned his first big league hit off Neil Ramirez in the ninth inning of Tuesday night's 2-1 victory. SS Corey Seager, 3B Justin Turner, 1B Adrian Gonzalez, C Yasmani Grandal, RF Yasiel Puig, 2B Chase Utley, OF Andrew Toles and P Alex Wood round out the rest of the Dodgers' starting lineup.
Clay Buchholz (arm) said he hopes to pitch in September.
Buchholz recently underwent surgery to repair a torn flexor tendon and is expected to miss 4-6 months. The right-hander felt so bad about getting hurt that he actually apologized to his teammates. The 32-year-old is headed for free agency at the end of this year and probably won't get a warm welcome on the open market.
Adrian Beltre (calf) is not progressing as quickly the Rangers had hoped.
"It's getting better but not where we expect it to be," said manager Jeff Banister. "We're still in the rehab mode." The Rangers had been hoping to have Beltre back by the end of April but obviously that ship has already sailed. According to MLB.com's TR Sullivan, "May is starting to look murky too." Power-hitting Joey Gallo will continue to man the hot corner in Beltre's absence.
Diamondbacks recalled RHP Zack Godley from Triple-A Reno.
Silvino Bracho was optioned to Reno in the corresponding roster move. Godley will draw the start Wednesday against the Padres. The right-hander holds a 5.34 ERA across 36 major league appearances (15 starts).
Giants recalled INF Kelby Tomlinson from Triple-A Sacramento.
The Giants needed an infielder with Brandon Crawford on bereavement leave and also nursing a groin injury. Tomlinson holds a .299 career average in the major leagues but has hit just .220 through 59 at-bats for Sacramento this season. He'll see time at shortstop and third base.
