Jack Flaherty allowed one earned run, one hit and two walks over seven innings Friday at Milwaukee while matching a career best with 13 strikeouts.

The stat line was outstanding, but he and his fantasy owners had to settle for a no-decision since Junior Guerra and the Brewers bullpen matched him. It was an impressive showing considering Flaherty threw first-pitch strikes to just 13 of the 25 batters he faced. He'll look to get back into the win column on Wednesday against Shane Bieber and the visiting Cleveland Indians.

Wade Miley (oblique) allowed a run and three hits with three strikeouts over two innings Friday in a minor-league rehab start with Double-A Biloxi.

Miley worked in a simulated game last Sunday and he showed no ill effects of his injury in the appearance. Barring any setbacks he'll return sometime in early July. He is officially eligible for activation from the 10-day disabled list on July 9.

Ketel Marte delivered a go-ahead RBI single in the 13th inning to lead the Diamondbacks to a 2-1 victory over the Pirates.

The go-ahead hit was set up by Jon Jay drawing a leadoff walk and moving to second base on a wild pitch by Tyler Glasnow. Marte went 1-for-6 on the night and his .244/.299/.412 batting line doesn’t exactly stand out, but he’s put together an impressive month and should be drawing more attention in mixed fantasy leagues.

Patrick Corbin struck out 12 batters over seven scoreless frames against the Pirates on Friday, but was forced to settle for a no-decision.

The 12 strikeouts matched a career-high. Corbin allowed just three hits (all of them singles) and didn’t walk a batter. He racked up 25 swinging strikes in his 102 pitches, most of them coming on his slider. Corbin’s season has been moving in the wrong direction for a while now, so this was nice to see. Fantasy owners will have to hope that he can keep it going in a favorable matchup against the Marlins next week.

Ivan Nova was handed a no-decision after tossing eight scoreless innings with eight strikeouts Friday versus the Diamondbacks.

He had quite the duel with Patrick Corbin. Nova was very efficient, throwing 90 pitches over his eight frames while yielding just three hits and walking none. The 31-year-old has been on a great roll of late, allowing one earned run or fewer in three straight starts. His ERA is now under 4.00 (3.98 to be exact) for the first time since the end of April. He’ll try to keep it rolling in a favorable matchup against the Mets next week.

Brad Boxberger blew his fourth save of the season Friday against the Pirates.

Holding a slim one-run lead in the 11th, Boxberger walked Gregory Polanco and Josh Bell to begin the frame before Josh Harrison dropped down a sacrifice bunt. The Diamondbacks then elected to intentionally walk Austin Meadows to set up a potential double play. It didn’t happen, as Starling Marte hit a grounder to third baseman Jake Lamb, who made an errant throw to home plate which allowed the tying run to score. Boxberger has now blown back-to-back save chances and three out of his last five. He’ll probably be happy to see June come to a close.

Austin Meadows went 2-for-5 with a walk and a stolen base in Friday’s extra-inning loss to the Diamondbacks.

Meadows has cooled down somewhat from his torrid hot streak upon his promotion from the minors, but he’s still proving himself useful as the Pirates try to juggle four outfielders for three spots. Playing time shouldn’t be an issue in the short-term, as Corey Dickerson is on the family medical emergency list and will be away with the team until at least Saturday.
Jun 23 - 12:21 AM

Jarrod Dyson collected his 13th steal of the season on Friday against the Pirates.

Dyson went 1-for-5 with a double on the night. The speedster has received a chance at playing time in center field with A.J. Pollock (thumb) sidelined, but he hasn’t done much with the bat to take advantage. He’s hitting just .182/.280/.260 through 60 games.
