Craig Gentry is dealing with a non-displaced fracture of his right hand and hopes to only miss a couple of weeks.
Gentry broke his hand on a bunt attempt Sunday, but it sounds like things could have been much worse under the circumstances. The A's have called up speedster Billy Burns for some outfield insurance with Coco Crisp (neck) also sidelined.
Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports hears that teams have called to express interest in Troy Tulowitzki, but that the Rockies have no plans to move him.
There's increased speculation that Tulo wants to be part of a winner, but a deal appears unlikely to come together before Thursday's non-waiver trade deadline, especially considering that he is currently on the disabled list with a left hip flexor strain. Putting the rumors aside, the Rockies would likely have to be overwhelmed to move him. We're guessing it has a better chance of happening this winter, if anything.
Brewers prospect infielder Nick Delmonico has been suspended 50 games for testing positive for an amphetamine.
Delmonico, who was acquired from the Orioles for Francisco Rodriguez last July, was batting .262/.300/.404 with four homers and 15 RBI over 37 games this season in High-A. The suspension essentially ends his season.
Mark Teixeira (lat) will take BP on the field on Monday.
If all goes well, Teixeira will be cleared to return to the starting lineup on Tuesday. The veteran first baseman has been sidelined for over a week with a lower left lat strain.
Athletics placed OF Craig Gentry on the 15-day disabled list with a broken right hand.
Ouch. Gentry presumably broke his hand on a bunt attempt Sunday. The A's have called up prospect outfielder Billy Burns to take his place on the active roster, but they are going to have to hope that Coco Crisp's neck issue isn't serious. Gentry is obviously going to be sidelined for a while.
Athletics purchased the contract of OF Billy Burns from Double-A Midland.
He'll replace the injured Craig Gentry (hand) on the active roster. Burns, who was acquired from the Nationals in the Jerry Blevins deal, was batting .250/.333/.330 with 51 steals over 91 games this season in Double-A. The 24-yer-old has zero power to speak of, but his speed could obviously make him relevant in deeper fantasy leagues if he gets playing time.
CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that the Athletics are calling up prospect outfielder Billy Burns.
No word yet on the corresponding roster move, but Coco Crisp is dealing with a neck injury. Known for his plus-speed, the 24-year-old Burns is batting .250/.333/.330 with 51 steals over 91 games this season in Double-A.
Jacoby Ellsbury is not in Monday's lineup against the Rangers.
We haven't heard anything about an injury, so he's likely just getting a breather. Brett Gardner will start in center field Monday while the newly-recalled Zoilo Almonte will start in left.
