Tyler Glasnow was pulled from his second major league start Saturday due to shoulder discomfort.

Shoulder troubles rarely end well, but there's no word yet as to the severity of this particular issue. Glasnow figures to see a specialist within the next couple of days. He gave up two runs in three-plus innings Saturday versus the Phillies, hitting two batters and walking three.

Rich Hill (blister) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session Sunday.

He'll wear a cover on his finger where a blister has developed and is refusing to go away -- that cover, by the way, can't be worn in a live game. The veteran left-hander lasted just five pitches in his first start out of the All-Star break, back on July 17. Hill is one of Oakland's better trade chips leading up to the August 1 deadline, but he obviously needs to get past this. There is no timetable for his return to the Athletics' rotation.

Matt Albers will make a spot start Saturday night against the Tigers.

Chris Sale had to be scratched because of a cold. This will be Albers' first start since 2008. He probably won't go more than three or maybe four innings.
Jul 23 - 6:04 PM

Chris Sale was scratched from his scheduled start Saturday due to the flu.

The initial report didn't include the reason for the scratch, so trade speculation swirled for a few minutes. But it's just a minor illness. Matt Albers will start against the Tigers in Sale's place.
Jul 23 - 6:02 PM

Chris Sale has been scratched from his scheduled start Saturday against the Tigers.

With trade rumors swirling, it's very possible the 27-year-old left-hander is headed to a new team. Matt Albers is going to take the start versus the visiting Tigers.

Cameron Rupp is showing no concussion symptoms.

That's great news. Rupp was pulled from Saturday's game against the Pirates after taking a 91 mph fastball from Tyler Glasnow off the side of his batting helmet. The 27-year-old catcher entered the day with an impressive .810 OPS and 10 home runs in 62 games.
Jul 23 - 5:50 PM

Tyler Glasnow left his start Saturday against the Phillies with an apparent injury.

Glasnow had hit two Phillies batters and gave up a run in both the first and second. He exited with zero outs in the top of the fourth. This was the 22-year-old top prospect's second start in the major leagues.

Julio Teheran (lat) performed well in strength tests Saturday.

The hope is that Teheran -- a possible trade chip for the rebuilding Braves -- won't have to miss a rotation turn. He left his start Friday against the Rockies because of a minor lat strain. Look for a decision on Monday or Tuesday, after he throws a bullpen session.
