Nationals placed C Jose Lobaton on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to July 20, with left elbow tendinitis.

It's his non-throwing elbow but evidently was giving him enough issue that he needs at least a couple weeks off. Pedro Severino is replacing Lobaton on the roster.

Mets placed OF Juan Lagares on the 15-day disabled list with a torn ligament in his left thumb.

Lagares is expected to undergo surgery, which figures to sideline him well into September. Brandon Nimmo is replacing him on the roster.

Rich Hill (blister) will not start for the Athletics on Sunday against the Indians.

Hill threw a bullpen session Friday without a covering on his blistered left middle finger. While the blister is doing better, he's still not ready to take the ball. That means he will not make another start before the trade deadline and will have gone over two weeks in between starts. It obviously is going to affect his trade market, although he still seems likely to be dealt. Sonny Gray will start on regular rest Sunday.

ESPN's Jayson Stark reports that the Mariners have inquired on Zack Cozart.

Ketel Marte (mono) is due back in about a week and is unlikely to be going anywhere, so Cozart seems like an odd fit. Stark says that the Mariners have looked into acquiring Jay Bruce, as well. Cozart is arbitration-eligible for a final time this winter.

Robert Murray of TodaysKnuckleball.com reports that Jim Johnson is drawing "strong" trade interest.

SB Nation's Chris Cotillo takes it a step further, saying saying the Braves are "moving toward" a trade of the reliever. The Mets are one club known to have shown interest in the veteran reliever. Johnson has posted a 2.08 ERA ERA since returning from the disabled list in early June and could land somewhere to help out in middle relief.

Stephen Piscotty is absent from the Cardinals' lineup Friday.

Piscotty is in the midst of an 0-for-12 stretch with eight strikeouts, so he'll get a breather. Jeremy Hazelbaker is in right field.

David Dahl is not in the Rockies' lineup Friday.

He'll sit against Mets lefty Steven Matz. Ryan Raburn is in left field.

Rays recalled INF/OF Nick Franklin from Triple-A Durham.

Franklin has batted .313 (15-for-48) with one home run, four doubles and 13 RBI over 19 games with the Rays this season. He'll provide infield and outfield depth.
