Phillies transferred RHP Jonathan Pettibone from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.

The move clears a spot on the 40-man roster for Severino Gonzalez. Pettibone will now be out until at least June while working his way back from shoulder surgery.

Phillies purchased the contract of RHP Severino Gonzalez from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Gonzalez will make his major league debut on Tuesday in St. Louis. Ranked before the season by Baseball America as the club's 19th-best prospect, the 22-year-old posted a 3.57 ERA with nine strikeouts over his first 17 2/3 innings at Lehigh Valley. He could stick around for a couple outings until Chad Billingsley (elbow) is ready.

John Lackey took the loss on Monday against the Phillies, giving up three runs in seven innings of work.

All three runs scored with two outs in the seventh inning as Ben Revere knocked in a pair with a ground-rule double and Odubel Herrera then plated Revere with a single. Overall, Lackey surrendered nine hits and a walk while striking out one. The right-hander will take his 4.21 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, and 14/5 K/BB ratio over 25 2/3 innings into next weekend's home start against the Pirates.

Phillies optioned RHP Hector Neris to Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Neris tossed 2 2/3 scoreless relief innings during his brief time with the big club. He's clearing out to make room for Severino Gonzalez, who will start on Tuesday.

Cole Hamels finally won his first game, yielding just one run over seven innings on Monday versus the Cardinals.

Though the Phillies only provided him a total of six runs of support over his first four starts, Hamels hadn't pitched particularly well either. It was a different story on Monday night. The Phillies scored three times behind Hamels (four total) while the lefty limited the Cardinals to four hits and four walks with nine strikeouts. Hamels' control is a bit concerning as he has 16 walks in 31 innings now. Nevertheless, he heads into a weekend start against the Marlins with a 3.19 ERA.

Jimmy Nelson gave up seven runs (six earned) in 2 1/3 innings, taking the loss as the Brewers were handed a 9-6 defeat by the Reds on Monday.

Nelson had poor control in this one, walking five Reds batters while allowing six hits and striking out only one. The 25-year-old had been superb in his first three starts, but some bumps in the road are to be expected in his first full season in the rotation. Nelson, now with a 3.63 ERA and an 18/9 K/BB ratio in 22 1/3 innings, will hope for better results in a start at Wrigley Field against the Cubs next.

Pirates manager Clint Hurdle said after Monday's game that Gregory Polanco (groin) is considered day-to-day.

Hurdle revealed that Polanco suffered the injury over the weekend in Arizona while running the bases. It appears to be a minor issue, but expect the Pirates to be careful here and give Polanco at least another day or two of rest. Andrew Lambo went hitless in four at-bats Monday as Polanco's replacement in right field.
Apr 27 - 11:01 PM

Todd Frazier went 0-for-1 in Monday's win over the Brewers, drawing three walks, stealing two bases, and scoring three runs.

Brewers starter Jimmy Nelson battled his control, responsible for two of Frazier's three walks on the evening. Frazier is now up to three steals on the season while hitting .250/.358/.529 with five home runs, 14 RBI, and 15 runs scored. He enjoyed a 20/20 season in 2014 and could be on his way to a repeat performance this season.
