Yankees optioned RHP Chad Green to Double-A Trenton.

Rather than keeping him around as a long reliever, the Yankees will let Green stretch out in the minors until a rotation spot opens up for him. Green impressed in the Grapefruit League this spring, contributing a 1.50 ERA over five outings. He'll end up in the Bronx at some point this year.

Jimmy Rollins was told he won't make the Giants' Opening Day roster.

Rollins was given the option to remain with the Giants through their weekend series with Oakland but instead he chose to return home to Florida. The 38-year-old had a miserable spring, batting just .125 across 40 Cactus League at-bats. His career is hanging by a thread.

Michael Brantley is expected to make the Indians' Opening Day roster.

All he has to do is come out of Thursday night's game unscathed. Brantley has started the last three games in left field and looks close to 100 percent. Brantley will be hard to trust, but if he performs anywhere close to the level he was at before his shoulder injury, he could end up being a steal in the later rounds of fantasy drafts.

Athletics manager Bob Melvin said the team could open the year with more than one closer.

It sounds like the A's could be headed for a full-on closer by committee. Ryan Madson held the closer gig throughout 2016 but he faces competition from former Giants ninth-inning man Santiago Casilla (who was blown apart for five runs yesterday) and a healthy Sean Doolittle. Until one of them breaks away from the pack, this will be a situation fantasy owners will want to avoid.

Sonny Gray (lat) has been playing catch from 120 feet.

Gray was throwing from 105 feet earlier this week, so his arm strength is obviously improving. The A's still haven't laid out a plan for when he'll resume mound work. Even if Gray hits all his marks, the best he can probably hope for is a return in mid to late April.

Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports reports the Cardinals and Yadier Molina have agreed to a three-year contract extension.

Specifics aren't available yet, though Rosenthal said the deal is worth between $55-65 million. If it's on the higher end of that spectrum, Molina will surpass Buster Posey as the league's highest-paid catcher. The 34-year-old has earned seven All-Star nods since breaking into the big leagues in 2004. This deal should give Molina a chance to retire with St. Louis.

Dodgers reassigned C Bobby Wilson to minor league camp.

Wilson had very little chance of making the team with Yasmani Grandal and Austin Barnes ahead of him on the catching depth chart. He brought his power stroke to the Cactus League, bopping four homers in only 40 at-bats. The 33-year-old hit .237 over 75 games for the Rays, Rangers and Tigers last season.

Dodgers optioned LHP Julio Urias to Triple-A Oklahoma City.

The Dodgers have been extremely cautious with Urias this spring, limiting him to just five appearances in the Cactus League. He'll need a few weeks to get stretched out in the minors before he's ready to join the Dodgers' rotation. Expect him to arrive sometime in mid to late April.
