J.T. Riddle went 2-for-4 with a triple, a run scored and two RBI in Tuesday's 6-3 loss at San Francisco.

The light-hitting middle infielder has shown some signs of life lately, hitting safely in four of the past six while raising his average from .208 to .236 since June 13. But he isn't a good source of power and he remains useful only in the deepest of NL-only formats if you're desperate for middle infielder assistance.

Alen Hanson went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles, a run scored and an RBI in Tuesday's 6-3 win against the Marlins.

Hanson has done a decent job hitting 13-for-39 (.333) with six doubles, a triple, a home run and seven RBI since returning from the 10-day disabled list. The presence of a healthy Joe Panik blocks Hanson's path to regular playing time, but if he continues to hit the team will find ways to get him into the lineup on a semi-regular basis.

Gorkys Hernandez went 3-for-4 with a double, a two-run home run and three RBI in Tuesday's 6-3 victory against the Marlins.

Hernandez has posted 10 multi-hit performances across the past 25 outings dating back to May 20, raising his average from .272 to .286 in the process. He continues to produce out of the eight spot, and if he keeps hitting it might not be long before he is moved up in the batting order.
Jun 20 - 3:24 AM

Dereck Rodriguez allowed three earned runs, seven hits and no walks with six strikeouts over five innings in a no-decision Tuesday against the Marlins.

Rodriguez threw just 60 of his 92 pitches for strikes, exhibiting a lack of control. He also hit two batters and threw first-pitch strikes to just 12 of the 24 batters he faced. He'll look to atone in his next scheduled start in a head-to-head rookie battle with southpaw Eric Lauer and the Padres at AT&T Park on Sunday.
Jun 20 - 3:19 AM

Cory Spangenberg went 2-for-4 with a run scored in Tuesday's 4-2 loss against the Athletics.

Spangenberg was the only Padres player to bring his hitting shoes to Petco Park, posting the only multi-hit game for the home side. All eight San Diego starting batters struck out at least once in the game, including one by Spangenberg. Despite the two-hit game he is still batting just .232 overall. However, he is enjoying his best month of the season, hitting .320 (16-for-50) to raise his average from .182 since flipping the calendar from May.
Jun 20 - 3:07 AM

Eric Lauer allowed one unearned run, three hits and two walks with seven strikeouts over six innings Tuesday in a no-decision against the Athletics.

Lauer threw 63 of his 96 pitches for strikes in the quality start, including 15 of 22 first-pitch strikes. One of his walks were also of the intentional variety. He also made up for his other walk with a free pass of his own in two plate appearances. Lauer tied a career high with his six innings, and it was the second time he has exited without yielding an earned run. Next up for the lefty is a battle Sunday in San Francisco opposite fellow rookie Dereck Rodriguez.
Jun 20 - 3:02 AM

Blake Treinen worked around a single while striking out the side in a scoreless ninth inning Tuesday in San Diego for his 16th save.

Treinen has been lights out, as he just continues to pound the strike zone. He threw 13 of his 16 pitches for strikes, lowering his ERA to 1.03. He has converted 16 of his 18 save chances, and he is likely going to be rewarded with an All-Star appearance at this rate. Treinen has yielded just two earned runs over his past 23 innings across 20 appearances.
Jun 20 - 2:50 AM

Paul Blackburn allowed two earned runs, four hits and two walks with four strikeouts over five innings in a no-decision Tuesday in San Diego.

Blackburn was much better than his last time out, but he still recorded just 11 first-pitch strikes to the 21 batters he faced. He is tentatively scheduled to work next Sunday on the road against the White Sox, but he remains an extremely shaky fantasy option despite the seemingly favorable matchup.
