Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports that the Cubs, Blue Jays, Dodgers, Yankees and Giants are all in the mix to acquire Yovani Gallardo from the Rangers.

As perhaps the top hurler left on the open market, the price for Gallardo has likely risen now that Johnny Cueto, David Price and Cole Hamels have already been dealt. With the recent injuries in the Yankees rotation, they may be the most desperate club at the moment. Expect the bidding to escalate quickly.

Pablo Sandoval is considered day-to-day after being diagnosed with a left forearm contusion.

Sandoval was forced to leave Thursday's contest against the White Sox after being hit by a pitch. It appears as though he didn't sustain any structural damage though and should be ready to return to the lineup at some point over the weekend.

Corey Dickerson was forced to exit Thursday's game against the Cardinals with a right rib contusion.

Dickerson sustained the injury while diving for a line drive off the bat of Jason Heyward. He's considered day-to-day and should return to the Rockies lineup at some point over the weekend.

Pablo Sandoval was removed from Thursday's game against the White Sox after being hit in the wrist/forearm area by a Chris Sale pitch.

Sandoval actually struck out swinging at the pitch, literally adding insult to injury. He'll presumably head for X-rays to rule out any fractures. The Red Sox should have an update on his status shortly.

Brewers purchased the contract of INF/OF Elian Herrera from Triple-A Colorado Springs.

Herrera will add versatility and depth to the Brewers bench in the wake of the Carlos Gomez trade. The 30-year-old hit just .212/.259/.374 in 99 at-bats with the Brewers earlier in the season.

Brewers recalled OF Logan Schafer from Triple-A Colorado Springs.

Schafer will join the team on Friday. He'll help provide depth in the outfield for the Brewers after dealing Carlos Gomez to the Astros on Thursday. Schafer is hitting just .182/.270/.276 in 33 at-bats with the big league club this season.

Rockies optioned INF Christian Adames to Triple-A Albuquerque.

Adames was just with the club for a couple of days to provide emergency infield depth and now the 24-year-old will return to Triple-A to continue playing everyday. He should get another opportunity with the big league club later in the summer.

Jon Fay of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports that the Reds have interest in acquiring Zack Wheeler.

It's unclear if there have been any substantive talks between the two clubs, but Jay Bruce could fill the Mets need for an outfield bat. It's unclear what else the Reds would have to part with to make a deal work though.
