Brad Brach delivered a scoreless ninth inning against the Rays on Friday for his eighth save of the season.

Brach got into some trouble by giving up back-to-back one-out singles to Matt Duffy and Mallex Smith, but he got Daniel Robertson to fly out and Johnny Field to foul out to end it. Since taking a loss against the Athletics on May 4, he’s notched seven straight scoreless appearances. Zach Britton (Achilles) is on track to begin a rehab assignment next week, so Brach likely still has a couple of weeks remaining as the fill-in closer.

Adam Jones went 3-for-4 with three singles and a run scored Friday against the Rays.

That gives him back-to-back three-hit games. His batting average has jumped from .263 to .279 in the process. Jones has amassed nine homers and 25 RBI through 50 games, so he’s on pace for the sort of numbers we’ve been accustomed to seeing from him.

Jonathan Schoop went 2-for-4 with a solo homer in Friday’s victory over the Rays.

Schoop’s sixth-inning blast provided a valuable insurance run for Baltimore. It has been a rough start to the year for the 26-year-old. In addition to missing time with an oblique injury, he’s batting just .242/.273/.402 with five homers through 31 games. On the bright side, he has two multi-hit games in his last three. His plate discipline has regressed so far this year, but things should get better from here.

Danny Valencia knocked in a run with a double as part of a win over the Rays on Friday.

Valencia gave the Orioles the early lead against Sergio Romo in the first inning. It turned out to be his only hit of the ballgame. The 33-year-old has quietly been very good this month, batting .333 (15-for-45) with two homers and eight RBI. Still, he’s more of an option in fantasy leagues which allow for daily lineup changes.

Carlos Santana clubbed his ninth home run of the season as the Phillies fell to the Blue Jays on Friday night.

Santana also drew a walk in the ballgame, finishing the night 1-for-3. His two-run blast off of Blue Jays' starter Sam Gaviglio pulled the Phillies to within three runs at 6-3 in the sixth inning. He's now hitting .205/.329/.439 with nine long balls and 32 RBI on the year. He's still best deployed in leagues that utilize on-base percentage rather than batting average, as he continues to be a serious drain in that category.

Zach Eflin struggled in Friday's loss to the Blue Jays, surrendering six runs (five earned) on nine hits over his 4 2/3 innings.

On the plus side, he did manage to strike out seven on the night while walking only one. He also chipped in offensively, clubbing his first big league home run. The Blue Jays jumped on him for three runs in the first inning, then finished the job with three more to chase him in the fifth, two of those on a mighty blast by Justin Smoak. Eflin now sits at 1-1 on the season with a 3.27 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 24/7 K/BB ratio in 22 innings on the season. He'll take on the Dodgers his next time out in Los Angeles on Wednesday.

Nicholas Castellanos went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles as the Tigers rallied late to beat the White Sox 5-4 on Friday night.

The Tigers entered the eighth inning trailing 4-2, but quickly turned the tables on former teammate Bruce Rondon. Jose Iglesias started with a leadoff double then Leonys Martin drove him in with a one-out RBI single. Castellanos followed with a game-tying RBI double, and he came around to score the go-ahead run on a single by Jeimer Candelario. Castellanos has been sizzling at the plate, slashing .333/.380/.522 with five homers and 27 RBI on the year.
May 25 - 10:25 PM

Leonys Martin had a nice night at the dish in a come-from-behind victory over the White Sox on Friday, going 2-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored.

Martin also had an RBI single in the eighth inning, driving in the first of three runs in the frame that would propel the Tigers to victory. He has settled in nicely as the Tigers' leadoff hitter this season, slashing .260/.321/.435 with five homers and 16 RBI. The one place that he was supposed to be a major contributor though, stolen bases, he has struggled to get anything going. Martin has successfully stolen just one base in four attempts on the season.
