Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that the Cardinals will recall Randal Grichuk from Triple-A Memphis prior to Sunday's game versus the Pirates.

The corresponding move isn't known yet. Grichuk had an eight-game hitting streak going at Memphis and had homered in six of his last 10 contests. He also sported a 29 percent strikeout rate and 4.8 percent walk rate, so the plate discipline the Cards hoped he'd find in the minors didn't happen. Manager Mike Matheny noted Saturday that he didn't think it would be wise to recall Grichuk and not play him, so he should be in the lineup fairly regularly. Who sits is the question, as Tommy Pham has been one of the team's best players over the last seven weeks.

Orioles recalled RHP Stefan Crichton from Triple-A Norfolk.

Crichton has been up and down between the majors and minors many times this season, ultimately posting an 8.49 ERA over seven relief appearances so far with the big club. He'll be used in low-leverage situations.

Orioles optioned RHP Miguel Castro to Double-A Bowie.

Castro holds a 4.09 ERA over eight relief appearances in the majors this season. Stefan Crichton is replacing him in the bullpen.

Royals released RHP Chris Young.

Young was removed from the 40-man roster Friday after the signing of Neftali Feliz and he's now officially a free agent. The 38-year-old will surely have to settle for a minor league contract if he intends on continuing his career.

Dexter Fowler (quad) went 0-for-4 at the plate in his return to action Saturday.

Fowler missed a couple starts with a tight quad. He went on a streak of four straight games with a homer but has gone 1-for-13 in three games since.
Jun 25 - 8:12 AM

Steve Pearce (knee) went hitless in three at-bats in his return to the lineup Saturday.

Pearce missed a few games with a bruised knee. He was pinch-hit for in the ninth inning Saturday rather than getting his fourth at-bat, as Kendrys Morales struck out.
Jun 25 - 8:10 AM

Carlos Asuaje finished with a single and a double across three at-bats with a run scored Saturday against the Tigers.

Asuaje collected his first two hits of the season. He has a discerning eye at the plate, but won't hit for very much power at all. Asuaje should see occasional starts while Yangervis Solarte (oblique) is on the shelf.
Jun 25 - 3:44 AM

Cory Spangenberg finished 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI in Saturday's win against the Tigers.

Spangenberg is enjoying his most productive stretch of the season, hitting .339 (20-for-59) with two doubles, three home runs and six RBI in June. He has raised his average from .234 to .271 since June 1.
