Dodgers optioned C Tim Federowicz to Triple-A Albuquerque.

Federowicz has been up and down with the big club multiple times this season and has batted just .176/.222/.176 over 10 games. He'll probably get another shot later this year.

Dodgers activated 2B Mark Ellis from the 15-day disabled list.

Ellis had been scheduled to remain on his rehab assignment through the weekend, but the Dodgers decided to bring him back early since Luis Cruz (elbow) is banged up. The second baseman is hitting second Sunday against the Braves' Mike Minor.
May 19 - 11:47 AM

Mike Adams could be placed on the disabled list if he doesn't feel significant improvement with his back by Tuesday.

The Phillies will need to make a roster move that day for fifth starter Tyler Cloyd. Adams hasn't pitched since May 10, so the Phils could backdate a DL move and possibly get him back on May 26.
May 19 - 11:36 AM

James McDonald (shoulder) will begin a rehab assignment with Double-A Altoona on May 27.

That's assuming he gets through bullpen sessions on Tuesday and Friday with no issues. McDonald is slated to go four innings and/or throw 65 pitches for Altoona, so he'll need at least one additional rehab start before being activated. He's not a given to rejoin the rotation once healthy.
May 19 - 11:33 AM

Tyler Cloyd will be recalled to start on Tuesday against the Marlins.

The schedule allowed the Phillies to go with four starters for a while, but Cloyd will return with the No. 5 spot coming up. The righty pitched well earlier this month against the D'Backs and isn't a bad streaming option in Miami.
May 19 - 11:31 AM

John McDonald (back) is also dealing with a right elbow injury.

McDonald landed on the DL last week with a lower back strain, but his elbow has also been an issue. The infielder is eligible to return from the DL on May 30, but it's not clear if he'll be ready at that time.

Ronny Cedeno was scratched from Sunday's lineup due to a sinus infection.

He should be OK in a day or two. Marwin Gonzalez is taking Cedeno's spot at shortstop.
May 19 - 11:22 AM

Ryan Howard is not in the Phillies' lineup Sunday.

Howard is batting just .179/.258/.375 this month, so the Phils are getting him a breather. Michael Young is handling first base Sunday, while Freddy Galvis is at third.
