Gerrit Cole held the Marlins to two runs over seven innings, earning the win on Wednesday.

Both runs scored on solo home runs from Justin Bour and Christian Yelich. Cole was in line for the loss until the Pirates rallied for five runs in the bottom of the seventh. The right-hander allowed seven hits overall while walking none and striking out seven. Cole has allowed two or fewer runs in eight of his 10 starts and is now 7-2 with a 2.11 ERA, a 1.09 WHIP, and a 70/14 K/BB ratio in 64 innings. His next start will come on the road against the Giants.

Colby Lewis was torched for 10 runs -- nine earned -- and 11 hits in 2 2/3 innings by the Indians on Wednesday.

Lewis has given up 19 earned runs in his last three starts after allowing a total of 12 in his first seven outings, causing his ERA to jump all of the way from 2.40 to 4.70. We'd be surprised if he finished the year under 4.00.

Lonnie Chisenhall finished 3-for-5 with a homer, a double and three RBI Wednesday versus the Rangers.

Chisenhall has been a big disappointment, but there's still plenty of time for him to turn it around. Fortunately for him, the Indians don't have anyone else they want to break in at third base.
May 27 - 3:13 PM

Michael Bourn went 3-for-5 with a stolen base Wednesday against the Rangers.

Bourn is batting .317 with a .394 OBP in 60 at-bats this month after coming in at .200 with a .264 OBP in April and losing his leadoff spot as a result. The Indians are happy with Jason Kipnis at the top of the order, so Bourn will probably keep hitting low in the order for the foreseeable future.

Delino DeShields Jr. made his major league debut at second base late in Wednesday's blowout loss.

Manager Jeff Banister said earlier this week that there weren't any immediate plans to give DeShields starts at second base. He played the position regularly from 2011-2013 in the minors, but he proved much better defensively in the outfield. Of course, there's now fewer at-bats for him there with Josh Hamilton off the DL. He'll likely get most of his starts versus lefties unless he shows he's a realistic option at second.

Kevin Kiermaier had to leave Wednesday's game against the Mariners after being hit on the right ankle by a pitch in the sixth inning.

Kiermaier initially stayed in but had to leave after the seventh. The Rays should have more on his status later Wednesday, but it doesn't seem to be terribly serious.

Cardinals recalled C Ed Easley from Triple-A Memphis.

Easley was up briefly with the big club earlier this season but didn't receive an at-bat. His stay this time around is also likely to be short, as Jon Jay (wrist) is due back from the disabled list Friday.
May 27 - 2:34 PM

Cardinals placed 1B Matt Adams on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right quad.

It's not clear at this point how severe the strain is, so a timetable for Adams' return isn't known at the moment. It certainly figures to be more than a minimum stay on the DL, though, and could be a rather lengthy one. Mark Reynolds will handle first base in the meantime.
