Padres manager Andy Green on Thursday indicated that Jabari Blash has earned a right to remain in the lineup.

Blash is hitting .458/.517/.833 with two homers over seven games since his recall. "The Jabari I’m seeing right now is earning his right to be on the baseball field consistently," Green said. "I don’t mind watching guys compete for playing time. I’m actually excited by that prospect. With all the injuries we’ve had this year, that concept hasn’t really been able to be embraced at all." Blash has had a nice season at Triple-A El Paso with a .291/.407/.631 line and 18 homers. He's going to strike out a ton, but there might be enough power here for NL-only value. Jose Pirela and Carlos Asuaje figure to see their playing time cut the most as long as Blash is in there, and it's possible Hunter Renfroe could also see fewer starts.

Yadier Molina was a late scratch from Friday's lineup due to right ankle discomfort.

It's unclear when the ankle began bothering Molina, who had a day off Thursday. Consider him day-to-day. Carson Kelly has taken Molina's spot behind the plate in what will be his first start in the majors this season.

Phillies optioned 1B/OF Brock Stassi to Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Stassi has put up an ugly .167/.278/.295 batting line this season. He's clearing out to make room for Howie Kendrick's return from the disabled list.

Phillies activated INF/OF Howie Kendrick from the 10-day disabled list.

Kendrick played just one rehab game and is feeling well enough to rejoin the big league roster. He's missed the last three-plus weeks with a strained left hamstring. The Phillies will be auditioning Kendrick for a trade before the end of the month.

Robert Stephenson will be recalled to start Saturday against the Marlins.

He's taking Scott Feldman's (knee) spot in the rotation. Stephenson really struggled earlier this season for the Reds, but he's pitched well at Triple-A Louisville with a 3.79 ERA and 45/13 K/BB ratio over 40 1/3 innings. The righty boasts a 34/3 K/BB ratio across 27 1/3 frames covering his last five starts.

Cardinals acquired OF Tyler O'Neill from the Mariners in exchange for LHP Marco Gonzales.

O'Neill was ranked by Baseball America as the No. 38 prospect in baseball coming into the season. His standing has dropped a bit with a .244/.328/.479 showing so far in his first taste of Triple-A, but he's still cracked 19 homers and is among the better power-hitting prospects in the game. The Cards currently have a glut of outfielders, so it's hard to see O'Neill contributing in 2017. However, he's an interesting prospect.

Mariners acquired LHP Marco Gonzales from the Cardinals in exchange for OF Tyler O'Neill.

A former first-round pick, Gonzales has been excellent in his first season back from Tommy John surgery, posting a 2.78 ERA and 64/17 K/BB ratio over 74 1/3 innings in the minors. The left-hander is a high-floor, low-ceiling type player who should be a solid mid- to back-end of the rotation option for the Mariners. It shouldn't be long before he gets a shot for them in the majors.

Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports reports that the Twins' trade for Jaime Garcia could fall through.

Jon Morosi of MLB Network reported Thursday that the two sides had reached an agreement on a trade, but there appears to be a snag. Garcia has a long history of injury issues, especially involving his pitching shoulder, so it's possible a physical issue might be the concern. Garcia is currently still penciled in to start for the Braves on Friday against the Dodgers, but Aaron Blair is in Los Angeles and will fill in if the deal goes through.
