DHing both games because of a tight hamstring, Colby Rasmus went 2-for-9 against the Twins on Thursday.

Rasmus was 0-for-5 with two strikeouts in the nightcap. He had been on a nice little hot streak prior to his absence, going 7-for-16 with three homers in four games.

CC Sabathia limited the Rays to two runs -- one earned -- in seven innings for a victory on Thursday.

Sabathia did give up his sixth homer of the year, but he allowed fewer than four runs for the first time in four starts. It's helped him keep the Yankees in games that he's walked a total of five batters in 26 innings. He's not going to overpower anyone any longer, so it's imperative that he stay away from the free passes.

David Price gave up six runs and two homers in five innings versus the Yankees in his first loss Thursday.

Price gave up six earned runs for just the seventh time in 151 major league starts, and with the way the Rays are hitting these days, there wasn't much change of the offense bailing him out. Mark it down as an off night for the 2012 AL Cy Young Award winner.
Apr 17 - 11:08 PM

Alfonso Soriano went 3-for-5 and hit his fourth homer Thursday versus the Rays.

The homer tonight was a solo shot off David Price. After opening the season 0-for-16, Soriano is 15-for-42 with four homers in his last 10 games.
Apr 17 - 11:02 PM

Yangervis Solarte hit his first major league homer Thursday off the Rays' Grant Balfour.

Solarte, who had cooled off in recent days, also doubled and singled tonight. The homer, which came with the Yankees already up 8-2, gave Solarte his first run scored in 10 days and his first ribbies in nine days.

Brian Roberts went 3-for-5 with a triple, a double and two RBI in his return to the Yankees' lineup on Thursday.

Roberts hadn't played in five days because of a back strain. He was just 4-for-31 this season before his big game tonight.
Apr 17 - 10:58 PM

Sean Rodriguez grounded into a triple play and homered in an eventful night Thursday against the Yankees.

It was the second time in his career that he's grounded into a triple play. Rodriguez was making his first start in 10 days, as the Rays currently have too many right-handed hitters looking for platoonmates. Rodriguez is certainly worth starting against lefties and he can play just about everywhere, but the Rays also want Logan Forsythe and Brandon Guyer in there against lefties and there isn't room for all of them. Ideally, they would trade Rodriguez and replace him with a lefty bat for the bench.

Adam Wainwright was on his game Thursday, striking out eight in an 8-0 two-hit shutout of the Nationals.

Waino walked three, but the only hit he allowed before a sharp single from Adam LaRoche with two outs in the ninth was a high chopper off the plate by Ian Desmond in the second inning. He retired 18 batters in a row at one point. While Wainwright has issued an uncharacteristic nine free passes over his first four outings, he also boasts a 1.80 ERA with 32 strikeouts across 30 frames. The tall right-hander will square off against the Mets and Pirates next week.
