CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that "there's said to be a bit of a market" for Alejandro De Aza.

De Aza was designated for assignment by the Orioles on Wednesday after batting .214/.277/.359 over 30 games. He's making $5 million this season, so the O's would likely have to eat some of the contract to move him in a trade. Heyman says that the Angels are not among the clubs interested in De Aza.

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that Cody Ross is receiving interest from clubs looking to sign him to a minor league contract.

It sounds like Ross isn't ready to jump at any of the offers, though, preferring to hold out for an ideal situation. The 34-year-old was released by the A's earlier this month after notching just two hits in 22 at-bats.

Phillies recalled 3B/OF Cody Asche from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Asche batted .295/.358/.393 with one homer over 15 games for Lehigh Valley while making the conversion from third base to left field. The Phillies will make a corresponding move prior to Friday's game.

Royals pitching prospect Sean Manaea (abdomen) has been shut down from his throwing program due to a groin injury.

Manaea has been out all season with an abdominal strain and now has a groin ailment to deal with. He's expected to be assigned to Double-A Northwest Arkansas by the third week of June.

Brandon Finnegan will be used as a starter at Triple-A Omaha.

The Royals had been planning to use him in relief in case he was needed for a bullpen role in the majors, but Finnegan needed to iron out some issues in his delivery and the club thought the best way for him to do that would be as a starter. Finnegan has split his time between starting and relieving in the minors this season, posting a 3.60 ERA and 15/13 K/BB ratio over 15 innings between Double- and Triple-A.

Royals pitching prospect Kyle Zimmer (shoulder) will make his season debut at Low-A Lexington on Friday.

Zimmer had been shut down for a few weeks after having soreness in his surgically repaired right shoulder, but he's back on track now. He'll work in relief for now as the Royals build him up. The 23-year-old was one of the best pitching prospects in the game before the shoulder issues cropped up in 2014, but he's playing catch-up now after throwing just 4 2/3 frames since the beginning of last season.

Rangers manager Jeff Banister said Thursday that Delino DeShields is not ready to make starts at second base.

DeShields played three innings there on Wednesday and Banister considers him "an option" at the position, but it doesn't sound like him getting extensive time at the keystone is in the cards. The 22-year-old began his pro career at second but was poor defensively there, necessitating a move to the outfield. Texas is mixing and matching at second base for now but should give Rougned Odor another shot before long.

The Rangers are expected to call up pitching prospect Chi Chi Gonzalez to make his major league debut on Saturday against the Red Sox.

The club hasn't confirmed it yet, but they tipped their hand when they sent down Phil Klein and scratched Gonzalez from Thursday's scheduled outing at Triple-A Round Rock. Gonzalez holds a pedestrian 4.15 ERA and 26/19 K/BB ratio over 43 1/3 innings for Round Rock this season, but he's been better of late with a 2.20 mark and 13 strikeouts over his last 16 1/3 frames. The 23-year-old is one of the Rangers' best pitching prospects and projects as a mid-rotation starter in time, but he doesn't look ready to make a fantasy impact just yet.
