Michael Conforto went 2-for-3 and whacked a solo homer in a win over the Braves on Saturday.

It was his third home run of the spring schedule but first in nearly a month. He has a .346 batting average in 52 at-bats. He has done everything in his power to prove that he deserves a spot on the Mets' Opening Day roster and perhaps even a starting role.

Rafael Montero fired five innings of shutout baseball against the Braves on Saturday as the Mets won 3-0.

He allowed four hits and a walk while striking out one. He has been excellent this spring, now rocking a 1.96 ERA with 21 punchouts in 18 1/3 innings. He would seem to be a good candidate for the fifth slot in the Mets rotation but this was actually his first start in Grapefruit League action. Robert Gsellman and Seth Lugo have been considered the frontrunners for the final rotation slot but Montero is making a very strong case that he should get the nod. He saw limited major-league action last season, struggling with his control as shown by his 16 walks (against 20 strikeouts) in 19 innings that led to an 8.05 ERA.

Orioles optioned LHP Chris Lee to Triple-A Norfolk.

The left-hander did well in Grapefruit League action, posting a 2.77 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 10/5 K/BB ratio over 13 innings. He'll begin the season as rotation depth at Triple-A and given the current state of the O's rotation should get an opportunity before long.
Mar 25 - 3:58 PM

John Gant was forced to leave Saturday's Grapefruit League outing due to right groin tightness.

He'll be re-evaluated on Sunday or Monday before the team determines a course of action. He's slated to open the season in the starting rotation at Triple-A Memphis and should get an opportunity with the big league club before long.
Mar 25 - 3:51 PM

Jhonny Peralta underwent a precautionary X-ray on his left knee on Saturday which came back negative.

The veteran infielder admitted that he's sore but doesn't expect to miss any time with the injury. He has been named as the team's starting third baseman but will have to hit well to hold off Jedd Gyorko who will open the season in a utility role.
Mar 25 - 3:47 PM

Mauricio Cabrera (elbow) is expected to begin the season on the disabled list.

The hard-throwing right-hander has been shut down with discomfort in his pitching elbow. He had been expected to open the season in a setup capacity in front of closer Jim Johnson. It remains unclear how much time he stands to miss, but the Braves will certainly take things cautiously here.

Lance Lynn was removed from his Grapefruit League start on Saturday after one inning due to precautionary reasons.

No word as to what the potential issue was, but they did not that he would have remained in the game had it been a regular season game. Before departing, Lynn worked a perfect inning with one strikeout.
Mar 25 - 2:54 PM

Juan Lagares was forced to leave Saturday's Grapefruit League contest due to a left oblique strain.

Lagares was sidelined earlier in the spring due to back stiffness and now an oblique issue is likely to put his Opening Day in jeopardy. He was expected to serve as the club's fourth outfielder to start the season.
