Elvis Andrus (back) is set to resume baseball activities on Wednesday.

Said Andrus, "There's nothing to worry about." He was scratched from the lineup on Monday with a stiff lower back, but it doesn't sound major. The shortstop has been raking this spring, slashing .389/.410/.639 in 39 plate appearances.

Rangers released RHP Jamey Wright.

Wright posted an ERA of 9.64 in 9+ innings this spring. At the age of 40, his chances of finding work elsewhere are dim. Wright last pitched at the MLB-level for the Dodgers in 2014.

Yankees manager Joe Girardi said that there was no timetable for the return of Didi Gregorius (wrist).

The Yankees need to see the swelling in Gregorius' left wrist subside before they're able to give an estimate for his return. He suffered the injury diving for a ball on Saturday. Gregorius previously indicated that he thought he'd be ready to play on Opening Day.

Reid Brignac has elected free agency.

Brignac, a non-roster invitee this spring, was among the Marlins' final cuts. He hit .222/.300/.346 in 81 at-bats with the Phillies last season. At best, he'll find work as a backup utility infielder, but he's not fantasy relevant.
Mar 31 - 12:03 PM

Phillies released RHP Kevin Slowey.

In his last two outings, Slowey had allowed nine runs over three innings. He was also part of a benches-clearing incident on Monday. Slowey should be able to latch on with another club, as he's a veteran arm who began Spring Training with a 2.08 ERA in two starts and three relief appearances.

Tigers manager Brad Ausmus has not ruled out the possibility of Justin Verlander (triceps) starting the season on the DL.

While Ausmus didn't rule out the DL, he did say that he thought that Verlander would be fine long-term, even going as far as saying that the big money starter could be fine "even more short-term." This all sounds very vague and uncertain. Verlander could pitch in a minor league game on Friday, but barring progress, the DL is looking like a more and more likely option.

Nick Franklin (oblique) was able to handle straight-on grounders on Tuesday.

Franklin's left oblique is progressing well enough that he's able to take the field for some activity, but he's still bound for the DL. There's no concrete timetable for the infielder as of yet. Logan Forsythe is likely to start at second in Franklin's absence, with Alexi Casilla, Tim Beckham and Jake Elmore also options depending on the situation.

Blue Jays released OF Dayan Viciedo.

Viciedo would have made $2.8 million if he was in the majors this season. He was hitting close to the Mendoza Line in spring ball, with no homers and no walks, so this decision doesn't come as much of a surprise. The outfielder will try to catch on elsewhere.
