Francisco Rodriguez can opt out of his minor league contract with the Nationals on July 12 if he isn't called up to the majors.

After being released by the Tigers, Rodriguez signed a minor league deal with the Nationals on Monday. The expectation is that he'll make a few tune-up appearances in the minors before being activated, but he'll have the ability to look for an opportunity elsewhere if there's a change of plans. Rodriguez was roughed up with a 7.82 ERA over 28 appearances before the Tigers cut ties with him.

Blue Jays optioned OF Dwight Smith Jr. to Triple-A Buffalo.

He'll head back to the minors now that Ezequiel Carrera has returned from the disabled list. Smith has batted .370 (10-for-27) with a pair of doubles during his time in the majors this season. He should get another chance soon.

Blue Jays recalled RHP Chris Smith from Triple-A Buffalo.

This confirms a report from Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca. Smith, 28, has posted a 3.93 ERA and 15/2 K/BB ratio over 18 1/3 innings this season with Triple-A Buffalo. He'll be making his major league debut when he gets into a game.
Jun 27 - 3:28 PM

Blue Jays activated OF Ezequiel Carrera from the 10-day disabled list.

Amazingly, Carrera only ended up missing a little under two weeks with his right foot fracture. He returns to a .297/.366/.412 batting line.

Blue Jays designated RHP Jason Grilli for assignment.

It's part of a host of moves for the Blue Jays, including the addition of Chris Smith to the bullpen. The 40-year-old Grilli has put up an unsightly 6.97 ERA over 26 appearances this season and the Blue Jays are now ready to move forward.

Brewers activated INF Jonathan Villar from the 10-day disabled list.

Villar landed on the disabled list with a back strain earlier this month, but he made it through a brief rehab assignment with no issues while going 8-for-13. The Brewers will have to hope that he can keep it going in his return to the active roster. Villar has put up a disappointing .213/.283/.342 batting line so far this season. Eric Sogard could cut into his playing time if he continues to struggle.
Jun 27 - 3:22 PM

Brewers activated OF Ryan Braun from the 10-day disabled list.

Braun, who has been out for a month with a calf strain, went 2-for-8 with a homer during a brief minor league rehab stint with Class A Wisconsin. The 33-year-old returns to a .262/.350/.524 batting line with seven home runs and 19 RBI over 30 games.
Jun 27 - 3:18 PM

Brewers designated INF Nick Franklin for assignment.

Franklin gets the boot with Jonathan Villar and Ryan Braun coming back from the disabled list. The 26-year-old was claimed off waivers from the Rays at the end of spring training, but he batted just .195/.258/.317 with two homers and 10 RBI through 53 games during his tenure with Milwaukee.
