Cowboys LT Tyron Smith (back) did not practice Wednesday.

Smith was inactive Week 3 after his back tightened up in Friday's practice. He continued to suffer spasms throughout the weekend, but the Cowboys think he is improving and expect him to play against the 49ers. Chaz Green will start again at left tackle if Smith cannot go.

Jets coach Todd Bowles said the team will "make sure" Brandon Marshall gets the ball.

"I’m sure (defenses are) paying attention to him; they were paying attention to him last year," Bowles said. "We just have to find better ways to get him the ball." Marshall does have 27 targets through three games, but he has caught just 12 of those for 160 yards and, most concerningly, zero touchdowns. With Eric Decker looking likely to miss some time with a shoulder injury, Marshall will have to be more effective moving forward.

Bucs coach Dirk Koetter said the team has "thrown too much" in the last two games.

Jameis Winston has thrown 110 times total in the last two games after attempting more than 40 passes just three times as a rookie. "For our team to be successful," Koetter said, "we can't be throwing in the 50s and we can't be running in the 20s." Game scripts and the injury to Doug Martin have certainly played a role in the pass-heavy approach, but Koetter knows he needs to reel it in. After the Bengals had success running at the Broncos last week, the Bucs could try a similar gameplan on Sunday.

Bengals WLB Vontaze Burfict is expected to play 25-35 snaps Thursday night.

Suspended the first three games, coach Marvin Lewis said the team would "have to lock him in a trunk" to keep Burfict from playing Thursday. That comment suggests the linebacker could easily surpass whatever snap goals the team sets entering the game. Burfict's return should be a big boost to the entire defense.

Jaguars OC Greg Olson vowed to "get this run game fixed."

Running backs have averaged just 2.24 yards per carry for the Jaguars this season, and it did not get any better in Chris Ivory's return last week. The running game has a theoretical "get-right game" against the Colts on Sunday, but Indy played much better against the run last week and are starting to get healthy. With the offensive line in shambles, the Jaguars will struggle to run the ball all season.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Dolphins TE Jordan Cameron is scheduled to meet with a concussion specialist.

Cameron has a long history with concussions and suffered yet another Week 3 against the Browns. He has already been ruled out for Week 4, and he could be looking at an extended absence.

DetroitLions.com's Tim Twentyman expects Dwayne Washington to see "an uptick in carries" against the Bears.

Twentyman said Theo Riddick will still be involved, but the smart money is on Washington beginning to monopolize the early-down work. He was much more effective on the same number of carries last week and is a better fit for Ameer Abdullah's old role. Against a Bears front which has been decimated by injuries, Washington is a FLEX play with the upside for a lot more.

Cowboys WR Brice Butler said he is "more confident" in the offense this season.

The Cowboys traded for Butler after Dez Bryant broke his foot in the season opener last year. Butler did not do much while Bryant was out the first time, but he did manage eight catches for 134 yards over the final two weeks of the season. With Bryant likely to miss time again with a hairline fracture in his knee, Butler should get his chance in the starting lineup. He is an interesting sleeper against the 49ers.
