Coach Mike Pettine was noncommittal Monday when asked if Ben Tate (knee) would return as a starter following the Browns' Week 4 bye.

Pettine said the Browns are "eager" to get back Tate, but the performance of rookies Terrance West and Isaiah Crowell has "made it tougher" to lean on Tate in the manner the team initially planned. They wanted to use Tate as an every-down back. Tate remains likely to retake the Browns' lead back role when healthy and should be owned in all leagues. West and Crowell's fantasy stock will both be very much touch and go when Tate returns.

Danny Woodhead needs surgery on his fractured fibula and ankle and will be lost for the rest of the season.

With Ryan Mathews (knee) out 3-4 more weeks, the Bolts will keep Donald Brown in a workhorse role. They could turn to UDFA Branden Oliver in Woodhead's passing-back replacement, and perhaps promote Marion Grice from the practice squad. Woodhead's loss is a blow to San Diego's passing game, but Oliver showed some Sprolesian flashes in the preseason. Woodhead will turn 30 next January. The Chargers signed him to a new three-year deal late this summer.

Jake Locker suffered an injury to his right (throwing) wrist in Week 3, and the Titans are unsure of his status for Week 4 against the Colts.

Locker's wrist apparently got bent awkwardly in Sunday's loss to the Bengals. Per coach Ken Whisenhunt, Locker could barely grip a football after the game. The Titans could conceivably use the injury as an excuse get another QB under center. Charlie Whitehurst and rookie Zach Mettenberger are next on the depth chart. Locker has been abominable over Tennessee's last two games, combining for a 1:4 TD-to-INT ratio with two fumbles in back-to-back losses.

Vikings WLB Chad Greenway is now dealing with a fractured rib in addition to a fractured hand.

Greenway has played solid run defense through three weeks, so it would be a blow to Minnesota's defense were he forced to miss time. The Vikings would presumably turn to sophomore Gerald Hodges at weak-side linebacker.

The Charlotte Observer suggests Jonathan Stewart's knee sprain could cost him a month.

Specifically, beat writer Joe Person "wouldn't be surprised" if the injury cost Stewart four weeks after he missed five games last week with a sprained MCL. Person refers to Stewart's latest sprain as "severe." Stewart is on the verge of being droppable in 12- and 14-team leagues. With DeAngelo Williams (thigh) also hobbled and Mike Tolbert (hairline leg fracture) out indefinitely, UDFA Darrin Reaves is worth grabbing as an RB4 fantasy stash.

Doug Martin (knee) participated in Bucs practice Monday.

Per beat writer Greg Auman, Martin "looked like he was practicing without limitations." Bobby Rainey has lost three fumbles through three games, and struggled outside of his Week 2 blowup against St. Louis. Martin still has a chance to retake Tampa Bay's backfield. The Bucs face Pittsburgh in Week 4.

The Charlotte Observer reports Mike Tolbert could miss "more than a month" with a hairline fracture in his left leg.

He also has a bone bruise. The injuries put UDFA Darrin Reaves on the fantasy radar with Jonathan Stewart also in danger of missing multiple weeks, and DeAngelo Williams short of 100 percent. Tolbert can be safely dropped in any leagues where he was owned. He might eventually become an I.R. candidate.

Redskins placed LCB DeAngelo Hall on injured reserve with a torn Achilles' tendon, ending his season.

Hall is under contract through 2017. It seems like Hall has been in the league forever, but he's still only 31 years old (in November) and will have a chance to return to the Redskins at his 2015 base salary of $4 million. The Skins will move forward with David Amerson and E.J. Biggers at corner.
