Brandon Phillips is back at second base for Saturday's game versus the Nationals.

Phillips hadn't played since Monday because of turf toe.
May 30 - 2:47 PM

Nationals placed RHP Stephen Strasburg on the 15-day disabled list with neck tightness.

A 15-day break certainly can't hurt Strasburg after the roughest patch he's dealt with as a pro. Considering that the Nats are labeling this tightness, as opposed to even a strain or something worse, it doesn't figure that he'll be out for long. A.J. Cole and Taylor Jordan should be the top candidates to replace him in the rotation. It might come down to whether Jordan is needed in the pen before Strasburg's turn comes up.
May 30 - 2:29 PM

Nationals recalled RHP Taylor Hill from Triple-A Syracuse.

Hill had a 4.35 ERA and a 26/9 K/BB ratio in 51 2/3 innings for Syracuse. This will probably be a short stay for him; while there's the chance he could stick as the replacement for Stephen Strasburg in the rotation, that role is more likely to go to A.J. Cole.
May 30 - 2:27 PM

Royals activated outfielder Alex Rios from the 15-day disabled list.

Rios missed 6 1/2 weeks with a fractured left hand. He'll return as the Royals' primary right fielder, and he should be fine to use in mixed leagues next week.
May 30 - 2:22 PM

Royals optioned outfielder Paulo Orlando to Triple-A Omaha.

Orlando was the regular right fielder while Alex Rios was out, but he wasn't very good at all in that role and there was no way the Royals were going to sacrifice Jarrod Dyson to keep Orlando on the roster with Rios back. Orlando hit .241/.274/.384 in 112 at-bats overall, but that was because of his strong first couple of games of the season. He hit .231/.259/.327 during Rios's absence.
May 30 - 2:21 PM

Johnny Hellweg (elbow) is expected to join High-A Brevard County next week.

Hellweg underwent Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery last April and then suffered a back injury last month during his rehab. But the 26-year-old right-hander is finally ready to pitch in live games and could become an option for the Brewers' rotation in the second half.
May 30 - 1:20 PM

Avisail Garcia (knee) is back in the White Sox starting lineup Saturday versus the Astros.

Garcia missed several games with discomfort in his right knee. The rest should do him some good in the long term. He's batting .327/.365/.456 with four home runs and 18 RBI in 39 games this season for the Pale Hose.
May 30 - 12:54 PM

Jose Abreu (finger) is not in the White Sox starting lineup Saturday against the Astros.

Abreu left Friday's game with irritation in his right index finger. It's something that has been lingering for a couple of weeks, but he could return Sunday.
