Gregory Polanco departed Wednesday's game versus the Twins due to left knee discomfort.
He didn't appear to suffer the injury on one play, although it's worth noting that he had an issue with the same knee last month after banging into the outfield wall. More should be known on Polanco after Wednesday's game.
Asdrubal Cabrera belted a solo homer in Wednesday's loss to the Tigers.
Cabrera's solo shot in the fifth inning represented the lone run for the Rays. He also gave it back and then some, as a crucial error by the shortstop in the seventh led to the Tigers' only two runs. Cabrera is batting just .231/.281/.373 for Tampa this season.
Rangers OF prospect Lewis Brinson bopped two homers Tuesday in a win for High-A Desert.
The reigning California League Player of the Week has left the yard three times in his last two games. He's hit an incredible .600 during his seven-game hitting streak (18-for-30). Brinson has watched his average rise from .302 to .337 over that stretch. Brinson is second in the league in average, slugging percentage (.627) and OPS (1.044). He trails Lancaster's A.J. Reed in all three categories.
CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that the Mets "have their sights clearly on a big bat."
Heyman lists Justin Upton, Carlos Gonzalez, Carlos Gomez, Gerardo Parra and Jay Bruce as possibilities that they're considering. He adds that the Reds at one point were showing interest in Zack Wheeler (elbow) in a potential trade for Bruce. It was Heyman who reported over the weekend that the Mets were unwilling to meet the Padres' asking price for Upton, but it sounds like the two sides haven't given up on getting something done.
Mariners OF prospect Tyler O'Neill belted his fifth home run in six games Tuesday for High-A Bakersfield.
Over that span, he's hit .545 with 12 RBI. O'Neill's batting average has gone up 25 points during that stretch (.238 to .263). The 20-year-old from Canada is tied for second in the California League with 21 home runs this year. He's also seventh in slugging (.547) and 10th in OPS (.849). O'Neill is a perfect 12-for-12 on steal attempts.
CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that the Padres have discussed Javier Baez with the Cubs.
FOX Sports' Jon Morosi reported on Monday that they've also talked to the Cubs about Starlin Castro as they look for a long-term solution at shortstop. The Cubs are interested in a few of the Padres' starters, namely Tyson Ross and Andrew Cashner, so the two sides could be a match. Baez has spent all season at Triple-A Iowa, batting .317/.387/.572 with 10 homers over 38 games in an injury-shortened campaign.
Blue Jays designated LHP Felix Doubront for assignment.
The move clears a spot on the 40-man roster for Troy Tulowitzki. Doubront pitched well in his first start with the Jays but wasn't so good his last three times out.
Nationals C prospect Raudy Read homered for the second game in a row Tuesday for Low-A Hagerstown.
The 21-year-old plated two runs while contributing a season-high three hits. He's hit .371 with five extra-base hits during his seven-game hitting streak. Nine of Reed's 25 RBI this season have come since the All-Star break.
