Mike Zunino went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Monday's win against the Rays.

Zunino padded the Mariners' lead to 4-1 with a ninth-inning solo home run off of Brandon Gomes. He hasn't done much at the plate, batting a meager .185/.244/.379 with six home runs and 14 RBI.

Robinson Cano had two RBI singles in four at-bats Monday as the Mariners won against the Rays.

Cano plated the Mariners' first run in the first inning, then added insurance in the eighth. The second baseman had gone hitless in three consecutive games. He's still batting a disappointing .253/.295/.337 with one home run and 13 RBI.
May 25 - 10:02 PM

Giancarlo Stanton was the only source of offense for the Marlins, knocking in both runs in Monday's 4-2 loss to the Pirates.

Stanton gave the Marlins a temporary 1-0 lead with an RBI single in the first inning, then reduced their deficit to 3-2 with a third-inning solo home run to right field off of Charlie Morton. The slugger is hitting .234/.323/.509 with 13 home runs and 42 RBI as May nears its conclusion.
May 25 - 9:42 PM

Pedro Alvarez went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Monday's victory against the Marlins.

Alvarez provided insurance with a sixth-inning solo homer off of David Phelps, extending the Pirates' lead to 4-2. He has homered in back-to-back starts and has four in his last eight games, giving him nine total on the season along with 21 RBI and a .241/.327/.496 triple-slash line.
May 25 - 9:40 PM

Francisco Cervelli went 2-for-2 with a walk and a three-run home run as the Pirates topped the Marlins on Monday.

Cervelli gave the Pirates a 3-1 lead in the second inning with a three-run blast off of David Phelps. Not exactly known for his power, that was Cervelli's first homer of the season. The catcher is batting a solid .316/.381/.404 with 13 RBI on the year.
May 25 - 9:38 PM

David Phelps gave up four runs in six innings, taking the loss in Monday's start against the Pirates.

Three of the runs came on a Francisco Cervelli home run in the second inning. The other came on a Pedro Alvarez homer in the sixth. They were two of eight hits Phelps allowed in the outing along with two walks and four strikeouts. The right-hander has allowed four-plus runs only three times in 10 starts, but two have come in his most recent two starts. He still maintains a solid 3.56 ERA with a 1.35 WHIP and a 34/16 K/BB ratio over 48 innings. Phelps makes a road start against the Mets next.
May 25 - 9:36 PM

MLB.com's Mark Bowman reports that Alberto Callaspo may be designated for assignment.

The Braves didn't give a reason for scratching Callaspo from Monday's lineup, but Bowman is hearing it could be because his time with the club is coming to an end. The veteran infielder has just three hits in his last 53 at-bats to drop his season average to .206. He was signed to a $3 million contract over the offseason.
May 25 - 9:34 PM

Charlie Morton, making his first start of the season, got the win after limiting the Marlins to two runs in seven innings of work on Monday.

Giancarlo Stanton was responsible for both runs, hitting an RBI single in the first inning and a solo home run in the third. Morton had his ground ball stuff working, inducing 20 of them compared to one fly ball. He scattered eight hits overall, walked none, and struck out three. Morton will look to repeat the success in a weekend start in San Diego against the Padres next.
